Hi I am just starting with building cues. The thing I need help with is the clear. I know some use auto some use epoxy but what I am interested in is the UV. I only need the size for 1 cue at a time. Any advise would be very helpful. Thanks George gs.cues@gmail.com

I don't think it even exists in such tiny quantities. Do you have a booth equipped with UV light & controller? And proper PPE? That light will give you a sunburn like you have never gotten from the sun and you won't like it. It'll creep in to any crack or crevice in your clothing & find exposed skin to burn. Be careful.

I went to Rick Phillippi's and saw his set up and didn't want to call and bother him. But he has a set up that I would need. I am doing the work in my house in the basement and don't want the smell and what Rick had had no oder. I am just exploring my options without having to spray outside. Thanks George

I think epoxy would be your best bet, or waterborne clear coat.

Hi,

You must experiment with different stuff to see what you like and compare results. Epoxy substrate coating, clear coat, sanding, and buffing techniques are all in the mix and it is not easy to figure all of that out.

Try one thing and then see how it is working and then ask specific questions here and I am sure over time you will find what you like.

There are many people here that do it many different ways and you will get many opinions. Stick to one thing at a time.

Good Luck,

Rick g

Dipping tank or epoxy are your two options.
Spraying clear coat outside is illegal afaik. Specially car finishes .

You can dip UV clear .
Prepare to spend a ton of money if you go UV.

I would try to avoid spraying in the basement.
