Cloth / Cloth Color / Dot Sticker

Hey all,

I am having an 7' Olhausen Augusta installed in my basement in 2 - 3 weeks. I discussed Simonis 860 vs 760 with the dealer and I'm pretty sure I'm going with 860 since it's a little slower for the 7 footer. I'm leaning toward classic Simonis Green & having them place a single dot sticker on one side of the table. Anyone have input / suggestions:

- 860 better than 760 for 7 footer?
- Color - is it really easier to see balls on tourney blue or is color really just personal preference. I have yellow walls and the blue bother me reminding me of a couple teams I don't like.
- Dot sticker - I see a lot of tables with one, two or none of these stickers. At a pool hall I used to play at with all Diamonds, they used a little sharpie marker dot and I always thought it was easier to rack without the head ball moving there. Does it matter at all?

I figured I may as well ask these questions before it's too late.

Thanks!

I'll take a stab.

This is all in my opinion

I like blue better, 860 over 760, mark the table with a sharpie instead of sticker.

Go with the 860, especially if you compete elsewhere. You'll rarely come across 760 anywhere else.

Definitely use a sticker on the foot spot. This helps protect the cloth from developing a divot or worse yet a hole from where the apex ball is pounded down into the cloth on every break shot. If you look at slo-mo vid of the break shot the CB is often a little airborne, which means it's forcing the apex ball slightly down into the cloth. So it has a purpose besides defining where the apex ball goes. And replace it once in a while - they're cheap.

You don't really need one on the head spot. As for color, either is fine as both are now considered traditional. Some think the T-blue is easier on the eyes but I've heard others say the opposite. One thing about the T-blue is the pockets tend to present themselves a little better because the dark hole is more of a contrast against the blue cloth.

I like tourney blue but color is of course only a preference. If you don't have great lighting, I'd go with blue. It seems brighter. 760 would be terrible on a 7 footer. I personally feel that 860 is still too fast for a 7 footer. You can't let your stroke out unless your rails are dead. There are many ways to mark the footspot without a sticker. On my table, I used a sharpie to outline around the corners of the rack. That way, my inexperienced buddies never rack crooked.

Just make sure you have lots of lighting. And don't break towards any windows. This is experience talking. :frown:

If there is going the be hard breaking on the table then use a spot for the rack (foot spot). Failure to do so will eventually wear a hole in the cloth where the head ball sits.

No spot needed if it will be exclusively 1p or 14.1...though with a tiny dot, it can be hard to find the spot when you need to put a ball up and the dot is covered by other balls.

I use and like 760 on an 8 foot table. Still I advise using the slower 860 on a 7 foot table. 760 on an 8 footer is pushing the speed limit, and would simply be too fast on a 7 footer.

I like Championship Blue as it tends to brighten up the room (compared to std green.)

My table uses sharpie points for the various spots. If you use a sticker, be prepaired to change the sticker weekly or monthly (depending on use levels).

OH, and congrads on the table.

Hi Homer,

I lived in Cleveland for 46 years. E. Cleveland, Cleveland Hts., and Willoughby.

I'm not a fan of blue, just the same as I don't care for chalk in any other color. Maybe I'm old school, but I think when He invented pool tables, He intended for the cloth to be green and the chalk blue.

I compromised on my table and opted for 860 in their blue/green. Simonis will send you samples if you visit their web site. I just think it's more subdued and doesn't scream at you like TB or Simonis green.

Personally I like the 860 Electric Blue. I find it better than green for the fact that sometimes with the 6 ball its harfer to pick up the edge of the ball on. longer shots. Electric Blue doesnt have that with the 2 or 10 ball.....
