Code Of Conduct

Without a real governing body to oversee pool in the USA you are just blowing in the wind. I was just wondering what is it that makes a professional pool player and how do I become one? From my perspective if you have to pay to enter almost every event than that's not what pro's do, your gambling or have I missed something. Having a Code Of Conduct for professional billiard players on the surface seems like a good idea but I just don't get it.

As I said before without a real governing body to oversee pool in the USA you are just blowing in the wind.

I guess I have another question, who are the leaders in professional billiards in the US and why haven't they developed a Code Of Conduct for professionals?

If you hadn't noticed, the thread was from a couple of years ago. But the question has been around forever and keeps cropping up. We don't have a real governing body and when the players try to form something, it usually flops. If you want to research it or chat about it, you can probably find a few (hundred) threads on the subject in here.

The code of conduct will be nice to revisit if we ever reach a point where pool gets its shit together.

Conduct/Dress Code

Thanks for the posting JoeyA. That was very thougtful.

As for the proposed COC for Professional Pool Players... well, all of this (especially a dress code) would be moot if the Pros made as much money as other sports PROS.

Dress codes pooey... when you make $100,000 a year, you are either neatly dressed all the time or excentric.. only when you are a BUM...do you dress like a BUM.

All the other COC is IMO a bunch of nicely worded 'either do or DIE" ultimatums for the Pros. Grown men and women already know the consequences for bad manners. The COC is nothing more than a set of Manners to abide by if you want to become RICH.

Pros are suppose to make money with their talent.. .and now they are suppose to follow a 'manners' clause' to maintain that effort?

a COC will only be met with a Players Union (See MLB, NFL, NHL, or anyother profession team sport)

Above made some good points. Pool is known for its share of slackers, drinkers and gamblers. Thats not a fundemental, that's just what some people think, just like bowling, that its not so serious a sport. Still, the PBA has proven (with money from Paul Allen) that team-less sports can be taken more seriously.

Ironing shirts and uniforms, would that help or hurt the marketability of this sport?

Exactly-As it stands it's the most useless sticky we have.

While we're waiting for the next leadership in pool, maybe some people will read The Code of Conduct and think about their own personal behavior, how they act and how others perceive them.

Maybe we could sart with a code of conduct in these billiard forums!

Reply to code of conduct

I don't think that you can really legislate courtesy and respect. And this code of conduct thinking gets out of hand. You want to ban people from competition, their livelihoods, for six months if they smoke one joint. Lifetime ban the second time. I think you're jerks.

MR Housepro- Could we get this thread down in the regular area where more people can see it? This is way too pertinent and important to waste up here. Thank you.
