Cognoscenti's (AKA Joey Gold)

I am from the chicago land area and I have had two cognoscentis. Right now the one I have is pretty much a plain jane one that I think plays very well. However my first one was much more high end, and I bought it brand new in 2006. I had many problems with this cue. For Starters one shaft had a messed up ferrule... and then after about 1 month the ferrule on the other shaft cracked. Another problem was that the rubber bumpper kept falling out of the bottom. Plus I don't think it played like older ones that hit more solid. So basically i got rid of it. Now I have this plane jane one bc people keep saying his work is the best. etc etc. I'm just curious about other peoples experiences with cog's?? Did anyone have one that fell apart or did not play well?? Thanks for the info...

I'm worried that once these cue makers become popular and make money that they really just don't work as hard. For example right now I'm getting a refinish but is someone else doing it that works for Joe? Or is Joe doing it himself??

ATM82...Joe Gold is a perfectionist. There's NO way that cues go out of his shop that are not top notch. Did you contact Joe, to ask about having the problems fixed? You said you got rid of the cue, but was it after trying to get the problems resolved with Joe, or not? In 13 years, I've never known Joe to not fix any problem with any cue of his (unless it was due to abuse)...especially if you bought it from him...and more especially if it was a high-end cue. I've had my high-end Cognoscenti since 1996 and had no problems whatsoever.

I have owned 2 Cognoscenti myself. Both were impeccable, both of them built at least 10 years ago but perfect nonetheless.

Can't speak for your experience, but all that I have dealing with Cognoscenti cues have been very good!!

I have owned over 20 through the years high and low end. I think the plane ones have a more solid hit than the really expensive ones, probably just psychological on my part. However, they all were perfect from a craftsmanship perspective and I never had one fall apart in any fashion.

I have an high-end Cognoscenti.
It's perfect and when you "know it" plays great!

Thanks for the comments guys... that makes me feel better. I don't know I have just heard weird rumors, that maybe his older cues are better than the newer ones... This may not be true, at least I hope its not. Cog's are all probably great new or old.
