I am just curious if any body else out there has production cues in their collection. I have quite a few but I really like the ones I have. Of course they are not like my customs but still I enjoy them. They all get played with as well. Just thought I'd feel other collectors out.
 
I have a few Meucci Originals that I picked up at low prices becauses I fancied the design. I'm partial to windows in the butt sleeve.
 
When I first got a pool table 16 years ago I thought it was time to buy a
"custom cue" so I got out a Mueller's catalog and ordered a McDermott
EK3 :o. Then I bought a Viking and later a Helmstetter. Soon after that I grabbed a Schon and a Meucci. It wasn't long before I owned a Joss, Huebler, a Predator and a old Palmer. After awhile I dawned on me that none of these were "custom" but rather production cues:eek:. Then one day I decided to only buy antique cues and the rest is history I was able to get a great collection of vintage cues that I just love. I have also found about 30 other cues over the last 10 years that do not hold much value but look cool in a collection like mine. I am up to about 100 now and still do not own a true custom cue unless you count the few I have made myself.

99% of the cues in my collection are production cues and I still have a pile of what are considered the finest custom cues made on the planet. I quit counting ages ago, just pissed the wife off.
 
I have a $200 Palmer cue in the same case as a 5K Paul Mottey. Sure I collect production cues along with my custom cues. If I like it, I save and buy. I really don't look to others to tell me what I should buy, though I appreciate it when they share my opinion. I also own Joss, Meucci and McDermott cues. Every one is special to me in some way. That being said, I realize that I have some great investments and others that I will not be able to sell easily. I'm a keeper, not a dealer.
 
I have a "production" cue collection. I believe the Meucci has consistently made the best DESIGNS of any cue maker.

I have 3 production cues in my collection. One of which has the best finish among all my cues, customs included :yes:
 
mostly what i have are older meucci. some originals, some not, but they are all about 16 to 21 years old. i just loved the designs on the old cues. i just bought my first custom this year but it won't be my last.
 
i'm a sucker for a nice helmstetter full splice. i have 2 later palmers that were actually made by helmstetter. i love the points/veneers coming to a sharp point as they meet the wrap.
 
Does anyone have a Production cue collection they want to deal in...buy, sell, trade, (mostly higher end & limiteds, new or good used)? As an example, I've got too many older Viking window cues I would deal.

Production Cues

I recently picked up an old McDermott D-19 (I think) and it's really a great cue.
Dice in the butt sleeve, 2-shafts, straight, and it plays incredibly well, even with tips that are so old they shred a little when you try to burnish them.
Several people ask me if I want to sell it, and it's a really cool cue.
In my opinion it doesn't have to be a custom to be part of a collection, and I always weigh in the playability factor.
Same with a couple of old Schons & Predators I have.
For some reason I like the old stuff better than the new stuff.
 
Cueblues, you are right. Mainly the older the cue shaft, the better it hits, whether a custom made shaft or a production shaft AND after 20 years, if it hasn't warped, it ain't a gon a ! It's kind of like a violin, the more seasoned the wood, the better the sound!
