Does anyone on here play at College Billiards?

I am going to be in San Diego next week and was curious about this place or any others close by.

On Cue Billiards in La Mesa might be a better choice. I have not been to College Billiards in a while, but depending on where you are staying, it might be out of the way and a rougher area.

Decent room with some history, though I believe some of the action has passed it by in favor of On Cue Billiards in La Mesa. IIRC there is no table lighting, just flo's in the ceiling. I believe they do have 3C and snooker.

I'm sure some of the locals will chime in to provide more in depth analysis.

College Billiards is a nice little room.

about 16 @ 9' Gold Crown I & II.
a lot of 3 Cushion play - and is owned/ managed by Pedro Pedrobueno - the best 3C player in the US.

Full kitchen and beer.

Lighting is good. free parking in back for about 20 cars.

O owned the room from 1996 to 2004 range. This is the old home of Jay Swanson.

College is a good room. The direction has changed. It's not the same as it was 10 years ago. The focus of the room is more on 3 cushion now. Although there are some good pool tables and a steady golf game. The tacos are good too. I would suggest "On Cue Billiards" in La Mesa if your looking for a 9Ball or 10Ball game. In the past year On Cue has had visits from Mika Immonen, Alex Pagulayan and Louis Ulrich is a local. On Cue is defiantly more of a pool players room. You should check both if you the have time.

I'm going to be in Coronado from tonight until Tuesday, are there any rooms close?

From Coronado the closest room is over the bridge at Joltin' Joe's - Downtown San Diego, near the Convention Center. There's a place in Coronado that has 2 raggety bar tables called the Little Bar, near the ferry landing. Neither place is considered a "players room".

Best bet for good equipment and good players is College Billiards and On Cue..

I have been playing at College on and off since 1987. It's a great pool room that has some of the best 3 cushion players in the country and a on going daily golf game. If you are scared of the neiborhood you probably shouldn't be hanging out in a pool room any way.

Don't let the neighborhood scare you off - College is worth a visit. There's a 9ball tournament on Tuesday nights. Fish tacos are excellent!

On Cue is also a great room - more tables and more players. The Monday night 9ball tournament draws the best local players.

Not sure where you're staying but if you're up in the North County, Pacific Q in Encinitas is the only pool room. Doesn't have the calibre of players that On Cue has, but it's a friendly place to hit some balls.

What a confusing name to someone who goes to UCSD!
I frequent the game room there, which you can't really beat at $4/hr with decent tables, considering I need to be on campus anyway.

Haven't visited anything south of the Clairemont Mesa area, where there's Ozone and Que Billiards. Que caters more towards three cushion, the pocketed tables don't have great felt. Prepare yourself for nonstop Korean pop music videos.

Ozone is my preferred location, with fourteen tables total, including four 7ft diamonds, two 9ft diamonds, and the only snooker table I'm aware of in the immediate San Diego area. Good amount of talent there, I believe league games take place weekly, cheap drinks, and great service (read: they don't close until you're done).

I have been to On Cue and O Billiard Cafe last night. Had a good time at both, lost a straight pool game at On Cue to a good player (Dan?) on a pretty tight table. Then I played some last night at O Billiard Cafe, had a great time ended the evening playing against a local woman named Hydrid (spelling?) We played a 10 ball set, race to 7. It was late when we started, I had already been playing for about 5 hours starting to feel tired. Anyway, She blanked me to 5, then it was 5-1, then 6-1. I finally pulled myself together and made the most of my turns at the table, ended up winning the set 7-6.

Then we played a race to 2, last pocket 8 ball. I lost 2-0, she ended it with a great bank, 3 rail position to get back on the 8 in the side. In fact, she made about 89 incredible banks during our games. She plays real good, straight shooter for sure. I kept saying that if they ever have a bank tournament she should enter, in fact maybe she should suggest one to the owner so she could clean up!

The tables at O where in great shape, clean and polished balls, really nice room. Owner even let me bring in some Thai food and eat it at his counter with his plates/silverware. If I get out to play in SD again, this is where I will return for sure. Hopefully I can run into Hydrid again as it was one of the best times I had playing pool recently - next time I am going to try and talk her into a straight pool game.

There are a couple of fellas named Dan at On Cue that play sporty 14.1. If you played one of them, you had your hands full.

Hydrid is a wonderful gal. It's good to hear she's stil active playing pool.

Hydid is one of of not most the sweetest person I have ever met. It doesn't hurt that she is probably one of the most beautiful people I have ever met also.

Just another reason to go to oncue. If anyone goes in there, tell Clyde I said hello.

Is Hydrid a Filipina gal? If so and the same one I met years ago, she was/is quite an attractive lady!!
