Collision Control And Avoidance

The 8 and 9 are both huge balls in this particular layout. I don’t think it’s possible to miss both going 3 rails, while still getting on the 4.

You can work on this particular layout until you can miss the 8 ball, and get position on the 4 ball every time, so what? The balls will be layed out in a totally different pattern the next game you play, where you need to use the rails, and you’ll have the same problem.
As suggested earlier you really need to learn a rail system that works for you and helps no matter the layout of the balls or as you said in your opening post, you’ll always have this problem. I think it is especially important no matter your skill level to learn this

Whenever I have a shot like this one where you have to go around three rails to get from the 3B to the 4B I almost always will run into the 8B. No matter where the 8B (or whatever ball it may be) is I usually seem to find a way to make contact with it.

Any tips or ideas on how to avoid the 8B in this situation?

Just go deeper in the corner and come above it. Use more of a draw stroke with plenty of outside. Left.

Does anyone think it’s possible to go 2 rails, coming inside the 9-ball by hitting the 3-ball with a touch of draw to stun the CB farther down the long rail (at a shallower angle than a rolling CB) with a touch of inside to help stay above the 9?
What he said!!😉

He doesn't do that. He doesn't practice break shots, he doesn't set up problems and shoot them until he makes it more than he misses.

It's why a lot of people refuse to help, things like new cloth and rigged lights are what rents space in his head. He 100% doesn't want to get better unless it means buying something that will fix the one at the moment problem.

you do need to go three rails or you may not get on the correct side of the 4 ball

you need to be about where you are now on that side of the 4. otherwise you start the progression to get out of position on the 6 to get an easy shot on the 8. then you can get into a bad spot and not get out.

think more balls ahead here.

Three, two, make a billiard instead...

DCP just making post about the funny Diamond banks.

You can do a lot of things to get three; like slam the shot with some inside so it goes deeper into the second rail.

And when the ChalkySticks website goes belly up, which it will certainly do eventually -- remember the Wei Table? -- there will be no way to see the subject shot.
No way at all? Even the dinosaurs have cell phones with cameras on them nowadays.
Practice shots like that until you can hit within a ball of where you want on the third cushion. Depending on the exact positions of the cue and object ball, you will need various amounts of draw/follow/side. Practice carefully with a purpose.
Why put in any kind of hard work when you can come on the internet & ask random people on a billiards message board how to hit the shot.

only problem is you get on a bad side of the next shot. lowers your total run out chances somewhat. especially the weaker you play.

It would likely be a shitty little back cut on the 4, but off the 4 you should be able to come 2 rails right down the line on the 6, so...
