Color of Money Cue - 2022

The "Balabushka" in TCOM was made by Joss. I was under the impression that the Joss N7 cue was a replica, based the webpage's description of it as "the same style cue we made for the 1986 classic movie 'The Color of Money.'" But now I understand "same style" doesn't mean exact replica in the case of the N7.
The “original” was a modified J18. The N7 was the “replica” of the “original.”

Gosh, Eddie Cohen’s Doom Cue just blows this cue away in every aspect. It makes this one somewhat unappealing.

This version is much nicer, IMHO....

Cruise was perfect for Vincent. I can't imagine any other actor from that time pulling it off as well. "Doom", dancing to "werewolves in London", Getting in the scrap with the old guy with the tracheotomy...the way the character was written, you needed a naive, goofy, screwball.

Turturro should have definitely gotten more screen time and character development. I would love to know what led to the tension between he and EDDIE....
He changed his name to Joey Knish and did the rounds in poker.

Joss. That’s what this thread is all about.
Yes, I read the title of the thread. Thank you.

I was commenting about several things, though, one of which was I found it interesting that one can purchase a cue based on looks and not on feel.

Secondly, I did say I thought the cue used in TCOM was a Joss or a McDermott, but I have not had an opportunity to ask someone for more info.

Thank you for your reply. :)

I've seen better looking Players cues in hexagon Plexiglas cases for 175.00
I'm still miffed at how people can purchase cues based on how they look as opposed to how they hit, whether it's a Joss, the title of this thread, or any other custom cue. I guess for cue collectors, it doesn't matter how it hits.

Hit is in the hand of the beholder... just like beauty is in the eye. Some people think a cue hits like shit, others may love it.

I will never purchase a cue if I haven't hit with it, I don't care who made it.
I've hit with high end, beautiful cues that had the life of a corpse. The hit was so dead a priest administered last rights.
I'll say it, that cue is just ugly, it better hit well.

True dat, but what I am wondering is why someone would buy a cue online and never hit a ball with it. :p

If they are buying the cue as a collector's item and will never hit a ball with it, that is one thing, but to buy a cue to shoot with online and never having hit a ball with it, this is what I was trying to convey with my words in this thread. :)

Best cue I ever had was a Sneaky Pete, a real plain Jane. It had an ivory ferrule, a real old-fashioned cue. I sold it when I went broke many moons ago. Wish I hadn't.

Original was a Joss cue. They still sell the COM cue for $760.75:

Absolutely. Sharp points and inlays really do make a big difference asthetically... It also demonstrates that they took the extra time and effort to produce something special..

It's odd to read the pros and cons of how the cue looks, aesthetically speaking. Most pro players like the way a cue feels more so than how it looks. You can have a good-looking cue, but if it doesn't have that "hit," the cue is no good, no matter how pretty it is.

The cue in the movie, I think, was a Schon. Maybe a McDermott, but it was one of those for sure, not a Babushka.
The pro players have left AZ long ago Jen. So here looks are almost as important as playability and feel. When you get both in one cue that is the keeper!

Hope you and Keith are happy & healthy!!
