So why was vince so pissed at the end. I know eddie was mad at vince because he never dumped when he was told to before, and eddie thought he beat him legit in his match but was mad when vince told him he dumped. Was it because maybe vince bet on eddie's next match and was mad that eddie forfeited? Vince said he used him, how? Please don't chastize me!!!!

Eddie manipulated Vince and Carmen both in order to get Vince to go on the road. He lied to Vince about Vince's relationship security with Carmen and he used Carmen's hustler instincts to get her to control Vince.

Vince bascially had no idea what was happening - he thought it was all just fun until Eddie left them on their own and he had no guidance anymore.

Then he turned into a ruthless street smart hustler himself and put it back on Eddie.

Eddie was trying to relive his hustler days through Vince. But what he forgot was that when he played Fats in "The Hustler" it was because he wanted to be the best and not be a hustler. But Eddie had returned to being a hustler in other areas, such as selling generic whiskey with false labels. Vince started out just wanting to be the best and play the best he could each time out. Eddie took that away from him.

So when Eddie rediscovered that he really just wanted to play top gear pool and not hustle or get hustled it really hurt when Vince hustled him at the end and dumped their match. Eddie got to feel the other end of it when the victory is not earned fairly.

And that is why Vince was mad at Eddie.

This thread makes me want to go pull the DVDs out and watch them both again.... they really need to make a new one.

I watch each of them like once a month or so. I swear that EACH time I watch them I pick up on some nuance that I didn't catch before.

Here is a cool exercise. Put them on your MP4 player and listen to the movies instead of watching it.

It's pretty cool to see the scenes playing in your head as you listen. Kinda like books on tape......

These two movies are art that happen to be pool themed. IMO

I don't think that Vince put any hustle on Eddie. If my memory serves right, Vince wasn't exactly the smartest character in the movie, so the reason I think that he was so pissed was that he probably expected Eddie to be proud of him for finally "getting it" and was expecting a pat on the back for finally doing what Eddie had been trying to teach him to do.
Eddie had been trying to teach Vince the whole time to hustle, and when Vince finally pulled the big one off, it was a hustle that involved using Eddie without his knowledge. Keep in mind, that Eddie had just brought his game back to level, and was more happy about playing great pool than playing the hustle, so his pride was a little damaged.

IMO, Vincent was mad because he realized that Eddie had used him and Carmen by taking them on the road to make money for himself. Yeah Vincent got a little street smart, but he still wanted to play the best pool he could and win. So when Vincent used Eddie to take the rail off on the side bet between them, Eddie got pissed. Hence his question to Eddie, "...stings like a *****, doesnt it?".

Wow, that has to be the best synopsis I've ever seen on the two movies. Really well done and rep to you!

I go along with this synopsis. Johnnyt

My take was that Vince was more confused than mad. He was happy when he gave the envelope to Eddie and when Eddie turned it down he was caught off guard. I think he expected a pat on the back from Eddie for finally "getting it" but instead Eddie went in a different direction.

I think the line "stings like a ***** doesn't it" disproves this.

I can see it now...Fast Eddie returns one last time, to the senior tour. He sizes up Efren and thinks to himself, "This guy ain't that good, I can take him." After regaining his form Eddie takes down Efren in the big match...then decides to take up 1-pocket.

I know they can do a lot of tricky stuff with the power of Hollywood........ But beat Efren?????????????????? They would need a real good Special effects Guy for that.

I think too, that when Eddie got hustled by the young man that tried to give him his money back it crushed his spirit. Then it became all about playing his best, but that was taken from him as well when Vince laid down on the bet. He had lost all sense of control, which IMO is what winning at pool is all about, controlling the table, your opponent and yourself.

Eddie was a little miffed from being hustled by another player as well , in the persona of Forest Whitaker......
also there are these other paralels where he takes on the George C. scott character from the hustler......Vince is fast Eddie ..........Mary Elizabeth Mastroantoniobanderas is Sara .....etc......

Sara did not look like that on her best day. ;)

that has to be the longest name ever, she looked better ti the COM than Scarface(better movie)

Yeah,But Piper Laurie was Hotter!
I think Eddie had taken on the same role of his Stake Horse in the Hustler, and Vince's anger was a play of Eddie's same emotion then.

In my fantasy world, Fast Eddie did nail Carmen that time Vince was off shooting against the Black guy with the cowboy hat and the scene was cut. Later on Carmen 'fessed up to make Vinnie jealous and that scene was cut too. That's why Vince was PO'd.
Isn't that a better story.

I think Eddie was a toned-down Burt in CoM. Burt was way more ruthless though. While i'm on that note...

Burt did hook up with Sarah the night she killed herself right? I just realized that the last time I saw it. The way they were dressed I used to think all she really did was just have a drink! *shame* I'm so nieve...

But seriously I woulda killed Burt. That was a wounded, desperate girl and and he maliciously took advantage of her. Eddie gave him a beating but I woulda waited till I was back on the road with him alone and then I woulda took him out and wrote "Perverted", "Crippled", and "Twisted" on his face.
