Coming From A Snooker Background

9 ball

I have played pool for the last 5 years or so & I enjoy the game because I find it easier to master the angles more than I ever did when I played snooker but the one thing I still can't get the hang of is the break & what I mean by this is I'm very inconsistent, you see one minute I can break & the balls spread great & it can sound like a gun going off but then within the space of a rack it's as if my brain says "why you asking me what you did just then cos I can't remember".

I would like to know how can I train myself to hit the rack consistently hard everytime so that it becomes second nature.

If it helps the weight of break cue I use is 20oz & I also break from the box as find it impossible to break from the side rail.

Have you considered trying the BreakRak?

Do you practice the break? Rack the balls, break, look at the what the cueball did, what the other balls did, then sweep the balls rerack, break again, look at the result, sweep the balls, rerack again, ect.... about 100+ racks.

You cannot learn to break simply by breaking the balls on every game you play and shooting in between each break. You need to break many breaks in a row to get the feel for that shot because it is like no other shot in the game.

It is boring to keep re-racking, but this is the only way to truly learn the break shot.
