Comment on UltraSkin Layered Tips

Thought this was an interesting read, before my next sale on here.

If you are having mushrooming problems etc I would love to hear about it so perhaps I can offer a better tip.

You can teach this ole dog new tricks, love to learn.

Tom,
I have not and my customers have not had a problem of any kind with your tips.
You can't please all the people all the time.

The soft is the only one I've found which mushrooms VERY LITTLE if you don't burnish it well, if it's burnished no problem at all.

NO mushrooming from me or anyone that have your tips on there cue soft med or hard

tip

I have installed a bunch of ultraskin tips. I have only had a few mushroom. The soft tips will a little and a med will on occasion.

I cut all the tips down to 4 layers and a nickel dome. I have just started to press them a little but I have not had any feed back yet.

Still it's a great tip and I will continue to use them...........

Tips

Using Medium for billiards, no problems. Soft for pool, plays great.

I had a soft put on and I could wiggle it from side to side with my finger. I cut about 1/3 off and reshaped it and now it plays just great.
Still the best bang for the buck in layered tips in my opinion.

No problem w/mushrooming. But had a problem with glazing on the med. Wouldn't hold chalk. Had to install a different name tip for the customer, said he had lost confidence in the md ultra.

I was miscuing more then i thought I should with these tips. So i switched from Masters chalk to Triangle and the miscues pretty much stopped.
Somebody had told me that these tips did not like Masters that why I switched and it has worked out well.

I only install ultra for my customers and I do have mushroom on S and VS. No so much on medium even with burnish. But what's do is that I offer the customer to re cut the sides after about a week of play. After the 2nd recut and reburnish no more mushroom ever. I did mine that way (S) and have been playing with it intensely for about 8 months now. No issues what so ever. Love these tips.

I've found that after the second burnish, they stay put. I think that is normal for any layered tip.

Still, the best bang for the buck Tom.

agree with two previous posters on reburnishing/retrimming. After that any layered tip should hold well.

I don't have too many relevant feedback from pool players I install UltraSkins for (Russian pyramid is another story) but US Med on my cue never mushroomed a single bit. On the other hand, another local guy who buys tips from Tom (I install for him too) reported UltraSkin mushroom for him, as opposed to Kamuis which hold well.
My guess is it depends on tip diameter. Recently a lot of players use small diameter LD shafts (Predators, OBs and similar) and their tips do mushroom. That said, second trimming solves any problems of such a kind.

the only mushrooming I got at all was with a soft that I used for breaking as well as shooting while leaving it full length, and even that was only a minor amount and after the first couple of weeks it stabilized and didn't mushroom any further

Thank you. Very interesting and that kind of info gives me something to try to measure by.

All other comments appreciated as well.

When I get a chance to play I am 13mm and Diamond Chalk. All this info helps, I have to look at the many ways played.

Thanks
