Conflicting reports regarding BB

I was hoping since Corey just won the Snooker Tournament, it might bring some interest around the game, anything to get Pool back on the Radar. I enjoy watching the players have to go through qualifying rounds to advance, and got to see the moves of the game and strategy .

professional pool "must get worse before it can get better"

I'm a bit confused with all of the coffee talk.

Unfortunately, you are correct, I'm not up to date on the current rules of Bonus Ball. I've never watched one game of it.

The rules are complicated. When I first met with Larry I advised him to change the colors of the 3 Balls to Yellow, Blue, and Red (the same color as pool's 1,2,and 3 ball) so at least the colors wouldn't be so confusing. I guess they were already committed to the purple, orange and black, although they seemed to like the suggestion.

I'm not sure what to make of last night, the only thing that's clear is professional pool "must get worse before it can get better"....this historically is usually true. "it's always darkest before the light"......ok, that's my attempt at "something positive"....that's all I got.

I was there, i didnt say anything, i was in a game on the front table, you were in the back with Larry and one other guy, it was in Best Billiards about 18 months ago +/-, Max introduced us. wow we covered lots of ground since.

I have been watching more Snooker the past 2 months then any other Pool. I like how they have to qualify in order to get in the actual Championship. They were playing on a 6 x 12 foot table, and they were always dressed in suits and vests.I would like to see an actual 6 x 12 foot regulation Snooker table to compete on, not a jacked up one.The game of Snooker show cases the shot making and position playing quite a a feat. Then I saw a couple days ago, Corey win the US Snooker Championship..now that's a game, with real rules, real talent, and separates the men from the boys. I was hoping one day, like the Southern Open Tournament coming up to showcase the game of Snooker, no funny stuff, real Players and real Talent and Real rules that everyone understands. This is just my opinion that I really enjoy watching the Snooker from over the ocean. At the World Championship Tournament, they played 17 days, and the prize money was way up there also, I think around $ 175,000.00 for 1st place, and $ 125,000.00 for second place. I just like the round robin qualifying in order to advance to the main Tournament..just a thought.

no it was 250k Pounds and $125K for 2nd. the pound is about 1 pound =$1.53ish so what ever 250KX1.53 was the piize $$ in Sheffield this year and 300K pounds next year.

Fatboy...You are exactly right on the nose with the amounts and I watched all 17 days and really enjoyed it. Ronnie played well also, it was a treat to watch him play

Eric,

Before I retired, the sales rep from Hawaii used to show up in Vegas for the CES with pre-ordered pounds of Kona coffee beans. Used to make a lot of people's days. Are they really that good? Never been much of a "premium" coffee drinker. 7 - 11's French Vanilla is just fine with me.

Lyn

i hit 7-11 before i drive to vegas if im sleepy, its ok,

the stuff i have the connection for, any can buy it-finding it was the tricky part 10 years ago, is amazing-its 10-15% hawaii coffee and blends from everywhere-he buys from and makes it in a 100 pound roster, hardcore guy,

They just know a loser when they see one. Don't get upset at them because you can't.

And if it makes you feel any better I've only been playing about 3 1/2 years on weekends only. With a house cue. Which seems to work just fine. It's just a piece of wood.

You completely missed my point.

As for the other, id probably have to spot you. Find an actual 9, play for something and get back to me.

Bob Jewett is right about this, players not reading the rules beforehand. As most pool aficionados know, there's many different rules to the same game. Take 8-ball, for instance: call pocket, call shot, 8-ball neutral, 8-ball not neutral, 8 on the break wins, 8 on the break loses.

One year at the World Pool Championship, Rodney Morris was studying a shot, and he gently let his cue stick touch the table as he was measuring a straight line, to see more clearly how the object ball would go.

The referee immediately came up and told Rodney he broke the rule by using his cue on the table as a measuring device. It was counted as a foul, and he forfeighted his shot.

It was written in the rules, but the Americans, according to Charlie Williams, never received a copy that year. You would think that Charlie Williams in his role as President of the UPA, the men's pro organization at that time, would have gotten the rules to his beloved UPA members before such a prestigious event.

Rodney is still one of my all-time favorite American players. He's Mr. Cool!
Jam, I saw Keith lose a set in Marietta Ga. to Johnny Archer on something real similiar . Keith had ball in hand after a foul, placed the cue ball for his shot, didn't like it and used the side of his ferrule to move the CB about an inch or so to the side. JA called foul and Wade Crane as TD confirmed the rule. Ask Keith if he remembers that, I bet he does.

There are about 12 - 15 billiards tables in Las Vegas and one snooker table. The billiards tables are at Asian rooms- Gorilla Billiards and Agit Billiards. I think they're both Korean-oriented rooms. I don't get why they like that so much.

Bob,

There are a lot more Snooker tables in Vegas than you know about. The one at the LV Cue Club is basically just for golf. There is a Snooker room on Spring Mountain in one of the Asian plazas. On the second floor if I remember correctly. Was there last year. A friend won the Snooker tournament held there. For some reason, seem to remember a Snooker table at Cue-D's. Haven't been there in a few years. There is a Korean billiard room next door to the Rum Runner Tropicana. They play on 4.5 x 9 tables. Don't remember the name.

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a single Snooker table in all of Upstate New York. Don't travel the whole state anymore so I'm not absolutely sure. Sad state of affairs regardless.

CEEEJ,

I tuned in tonight and I'm about to puke from motion sickness. I waited almost 30 minutes for the stream to pop up...then the audio lagged 30 seconds and as time went on it got worse. I'd say there was a 2 min lag by the time I quit watching. The stream was blurred and I felt drunk or high. This is pathetic and sad. I commented in another thread that a high school audio visual class could produce much better product. Needless to say I probably watched about 20 mins and had no idea what the hell was going on.

dont let the coffee confuse you, thats what its all about. The Mods wanted us to talk about something else on a thread, so following thir instructions we switched to coffee and were on a roll, please share your coffee stories-or if you hate it tell us about that.

I like my coffee just like my women...HOT and BLACK!

I go in spurts with it...sometimes I'll drink 2 or 3 cups everyday for a month or so...then maybe cut down to hardly ever.

I like the frozen coffee from Starbucks too!

Guys,

Tried to get the stream. Finally came on. Not experiencing any of the problems you have described. Commentary is in time with the video feed. Must be one of the lucky ones.

The Korean room near the Rum Runner was Seoul 500, now Gorilla Billiards (4Kaz, Gorilla - don't ask me). They refurbished the inside and have a couple of pool tables with the rest being billiard tables.

Gorilla Billiards, im going to check this place out, first im hearing of it. They got a review on Yelp, sounded decent.
Theres a Korean three cushion place a few doors away from Cue D,s also. Only a few tables though.

What's in a name???

Do you have more than one example in the last 10 years?

It's strange, I've been to a hundred + pool tournaments and never heard of anyone losing a game over "not knowing the rules". I'm sure it's probably happened, but I've seen more "hole in one's" in golf in my life than pros lose games over rules violations.

I have stated many times that referees should oversee the professional matches. Maybe not every round, but certainly the Quarters, Semi's and Final Round. Even in golf there are many times they have rules called by referees and players asking about rules during the rounds.

Bonus Ball was challenging for me to keep track of the rules, the unusual ball colors and keeping score while playing. Even so, the Top Pros should master the rules and the game in a week or so under normal conditions. I'm just not sure how they're going to educate the public on the rules when it's so complicated for the aficionados.

In the night club business we have a protocol for naming clubs and the #1 Rule is Do NOT give use a name that can be made fun of. I've been thinking about what a club owner would have named a new pool game......

I was ready to celebrate two nights in a row of booking winners by playing some bonus ball with my friend.

The website couldn't handle the scoreboard. Owwwwww. Owwwwwww!!!!

I know the one at the Cue Club has a regular golf game on it.

Have you looked at the Russian Snooker Table at the Cue Club? Actually made a ball. After looking closely at the pockets, it must have been nothing but luck!

The room you're thinking about on Spring Mountain Road was 4Kaz, on the ground floor, near Decatur. Closed now. I don't think they lasted even a year. Even the tables are gone so it won't be taken over by anyone, either.

See what happens when you get really old. Could have sworn the room was on the second floor :scratchhead:.

Actually, I do remember a snooker table at Cue D's. I went there once or twice and never returned because the Olhausen tables were in such bad condition.

Had to go there for a USAPL league night a couple of years ago. Dark, dingy, depressing place with tables desperately in need of help.

This new game is going up in "FLAMES"

Don

Maybe you haven't been around pro players much. Or you haven't noticed the "issues" they have with the rules. I've seen a lot of pro players and I'd be willing to bet that fewer than 1 in 10 of the current crop has ever read the rules. And that's for the standard games, not BB.

That's their fault, though, no? Whether it's the norm or not.
