Great article from 2005 I just came across, I just noticed theres a lot of people always posting threads about how/what tip to choose from, including me. Even though it all will come down to personal preference and opinion, this should help you find your (personal) taste. For any that disagree with the article when it claims (hard tips) are the best thats fine, But I must say the facts on difference in tips (hard, medium, soft),play styles and how the relate is great.

Hope this helps some people out, maybe some one can bookmark this? It would truly help clean up the main forum category.

Thanks for sharing.
Bob meucci articulated much better than I have been able to tell my customers for years.
I may not agree with his tip selections, but I absolutely agree with his point about hard tips.

I think I have to print that article for my shop wall.

Good to see I can be to some kinda of service to the pool community.

I will be trying one of my Super Pro tips pretty soon being my Morri is on its way out and is pretty much playing like a hard tip (Im loven it)

Does anyone have the hardness rating chart from each tip? I know that super pro tips are rate at a medium (74-75) buttt im pretty sure they are more around (76-82)???

The Chart would also be great to ad to this thread, thanks.

I can tell you for fact, no theory, no mechanical arm hitting a ball non stop that as someone who supplies tips to others that put them on that it is a 45% soft 45% medium 10% hard market.

HUGE Grain of Salt Alert...

I only know what I know, from 30 years of experimentation. I prefer soft layered tips or medium single layer tips. I prefer and get MUCH more action /control with a nickel radius, versus a dime radius. I leave even more chalk on the cueball with a Kamui Black Soft than a hard Samsara tip...so I'm not sure what Bob Meucci is talking about with "penetration" of the cueball's surface being more pronounced with a hard tip.. Take anyone's opinion with a grain of salt and try it all out for yourself. Whatever you like is what's best.

You would take the word of a guy who makes the worlds worst pool cues?

lol not taking the word of anyone im just passing on information, like I said to each is there own but his explanations do make sense wether or not he makes (good or bad cues)... But thanks for your thoughts, it did the thread a real deal of help

Anyone else notice how pros tend to use pressed hard tips? hmmm just curious...

No. Who are you referring to? Efren shoots with a medium (used) Elkmaster, Strickland was partial to medium Moori and Jesse Engel shoots with Kamui Black SS. I don't have any idea how many shoot with what, but they certainly don't all "tend to use pressed hard tips"...

I know almost like 80% of the kamui guys use a black soft or ss, and i know shane uses a kamui brown Hard, but hes the only guy ive heard of using a kamui hard. I'd say most pro's use a medium-soft tip (most).

Ah yes, TIPS. It is a very complicated question. Should you just go with nominals? Do you need the inflation hedge? Do you believe the CPI numbers?

Read all about it here.

Gotta love how people randomly ruin a thread thats meant to be helpful to people with questions for no good reason at all...

I guess people looking for help are just ganna keep getting ignored, oh well I tried but seems the topic has quickly turned to (spam)...
