If he had more reason to travel, Mike would be winning a lot. Too bad there isn't a lot to win.
Can see where chasing these smaller events around the country would get old fast, still would love to see him win a bunch.

Very true. He certainly played well with Corey in the challenge match against efren and busty.

Mike is still a huge favorite on both of those players on a 9 foot table. I wish they would matchup, cause I'd bet my house on it.

For sure. He is probably the favorite over every American other then Shane. Mike put on a clinic.
 
Meant to say one more thing, I heard enthusiastic applause for Mike on several occasions and I feel it was well deserved It seems he has a plan to be #1 and I look forward to watching his journey. With OB Cues as a sponsor, I think he is on a mission. I may even make a trip on a Wednesday night and get flogged by the local talent in that room which could include Mike.

Neutral racker and no inspection would fix this. Mike has pattern racking down to a science, but he still is a great shot. Take pattern racking away and lets see the difference.

Yes, the 8, 9 and 10 mike was shooting in the same pockets every rack. In the chat, it was mentioned every 2 minutes, but nothing was done about it. If Mike is so good, why does he pattern rack? I guess if unsportsmanlike conduct is what it takes to win, you have no right to complain about Earl's conduct during a match. Mike sure adds to the "shifty" persona that pool players have. No respect, gathers no respect.
 
Mike was consistently racking 1...4 5...8 10 9...3 6 7 2.

I had several thoughts and observations about it, in no particular order...

Was this brought up in the players meeting?

The 10 seldom moves anyway so it's almost always still in the rack area.

The 8 and 9 always moved to the side pocket on the side he was breaking from and the 9 went in a few times so it often looked like a 14-1 pattern at the end of the rack.

Opponent needs to call it on him if it was prohibited, or put in action as well.

I was trying something similar in practice just to see where the balls ended up but my break is so bad there was no consistency at all.

You still got to be good enough to make it work.

Last thought...Mike might be playing so well right now it wouldn't matter if a monkey racked for his breaks. His play this weekend reminded me of an exhibition Lou Butera put on in my local room back in the early 70's. Lou was free stroking like he invented the game and couldn't miss if he closed his eyes. The balls were rolling down the rails under the table 2 and 3 at a time. It was awesome.

You talk about this like Mike did something wrong.

Show us in the rules of this event or the tours that ran this event where is states you have to rack a certain way or pattern racking is against the rules.

Do you think he was the only person racking the same way each rack?

By racking the way he did what was unsportsmanlike about it?

I personally was there on Saturday most of the day and watched the stream a lot on sunday and I didn't see anyone that did anything I would consider unsportsman like conduct.

The following is a list of the bigger events on US soil so far this year, and the 1st place payout. That's $93,420 total. That seems like a lot to win, and that's only in the US. Plenty more if you're willing to travel overseas.

Now, for whatever reason, Mike didn't play in all of these events. But do you know how many he won out of those he played? Zero. Do you know how many times he got in the top 3? Zero.

Don't get me wrong, but facts are facts, and Mike's niche is playing rack your own rotation games against weaker competition. Put him up against tougher fields, especially with international players, and he's a small fish in a big pond.

I forgot to mention the cue ball. That young man was playing great position off the break with 10 balls flying around, center table almost every time..

..and with the 1 ball consistently rolling back to the short rail he was breaking from he was just off to the races.

...and I'm a big sportsmanship guy too. I enjoy watching players in all sports congratulate each other at the end of a match and didn't see much in the way of arrogant or bad behavior yesterday (unless pattern racking was illegal). He's young, give him some time to mature. Looking back my biggest regret is all of my bad behavior when I should have known better. We all grow.
