Ellen VB made her last Touring Pro Point last weekend to become the newest WPBA Touring Pro.

Okay Ellen! Now you can only come up to play in my State Championship events and November at Harry's!!

Congrats and thanks so much for turning me on to the Omen line of Grey Ghost Jump/Break cues, which have replaced other cues in my cases. :D :D :D

Good Luck and Good Rolls!!

Ditto Ellen! Congratulations Sweetie!

Ellen is one of the most dedicated women players I know! She also makes a great glove.

Like you, Barbara, I delight in the accomplishments of all who manage to "graduate " from the WPBA regional tour system by earning touring pro status on the WPBA. Congratulations to Ellen.

As we both know, the strong regional tour system (and those in the know realize that you are one of the pillars of that system) has ensured a most impressive onslaught of great players to the WPBA in recent years.

It seems that each and every year, some players that go on to be high seeds on the WPBA tour "graduate" from the regional tour system. Testing the limits of my memory (I'll probably get at least one of these wrong):

In 1999, it was Karen Corr and Monica Webb
In 2000, it was Julie Kelly
In 2001, it was Kim White
In 2002, it was Sarah Ellerby, Melissa Herndon and Kim Shaw
In 2003, it was Jennifer Barretta and Romana Dokovic
In 2004, it was Ga Young Kim
In 2005, it was Kelly Fisher

Every one of these players went on to a ranking of #12 or better on the tour. Five of them have been ranked #3 or better at some point.

Who will be the star(s) that the class of 2006 produces? Ellen Van Buren? Wendy Jans? Pan Xiaoting? Well, we shall see, and I know it will be fun watching it all develop. Good luck to all of them and to all the ladies who aspire to earn touring pro status in 2006.

I am happy for her.She is a good player. She is one of the very few players from the yester years that are still playing now. After more than 15 years of hybernation she returned to play competetive pool.

Well, now that her game is comming around, now she can work on being more professional and not so pouty and mean when things don't go her way.

Couldn't agree more.

I couldn't agree more - talking to yourself while you're shooting and mumbling to yourself while your opponent is shooting, the odd noises she makes - completely unprofessional. You see pouting a lot from the women - but the last time I watched Ellen - completely out of hand with her odd behaviors. Hopefully she'll learn a bit of table behavior from the pro ladies.

Wow, she did great and I must have been charmed to be able to beat her in our tour just a couple weeks prior. She lost graciously to me and I wish her all the best.

That is weird. I am used to seeing her storm out and then back in and then out again.
But I will give this to her, when not playing, she is very charming.

For the record...

Ellen and I are not related...

But I will pull for her for obvious reasons.. :)

Go Ellen..

It is an unfair charecterization of her.She is a very funny person but not a poutty or mean person. She is aware of her behavior ( making faces, jerky motions with her shoulders, neck, arms and face).one time she asked one of the old guard of WPBA ( Ewa laurence) whether her behavior was inappropriate.Ewa assured her that there is nothing wrong with her behavior. She is a very motherly type and I like her and I will defend her at any cost.

no, she is a nice and funny person. Then when it is time to play she is like the 'female Strickland'. Thats all. I have seen her throw more than her share of fits. Once because a player conceded a game, rules or not, just say thanks, and rack on.

Whatever happened to if you cant say anything nice, don't say anything at all. This is a heck of an acomplishment for a forty seven year old women playing against all those outstanding players of the WPBA.

I don't understand why you in the attack mood like this? You should be practicing hard and trying to make the top 100 in The IPT which will be quite a feat for a journyman player. Dont be mad because Ellen has beaten the so called numer 1player from Japan the last three times they played. Many more defeats are one the way.

I wish you would post a public apology toEllen on thiws forum because you supposed to be a southern gentleman. Thanks for you attention.

As for my part Ellen's making touring pro is one of the real great stories of this or any year.

Thank you!! Please note that one of the derogatory statements was made by a new poster's FIRST POST. What does that say? Hmmm, alias and won't reveal true identity?? And I could care less, too.

Ellen's a great story in that you're never too old to get to the Pros or your dream. She finished in the "Sweet Sixteen" last weekend and that's just great to top off her Touring Pro points status!! WOW!!

Here at AZB we dislike trolls and they are spoted from post #1. Big brother and sister are watching Dr. Pepper.

Ellen has worked very hard to get where she is at. She is also willing to share her knowledge and experience with younger players, and she also does charity work locally promoting the game of pool with a smile on her face. She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and she's a lot of fun to be around. Despite some of the things people have said about her in this thread, Ellen has a heart of gold - combined with a fierce competitiveness which has taken her to where she's at today - the WPBA. She's earned her stripes.

I don't see anything wrong in talking about some of the less flattering stuff too if it's true. If it's talked about like a fact and not a bash then the truth is the truth. Why should people bury their heads in the sand and only talk about the nicey nice side of someone and pretend the other stuff doesn't exist? Maybe this is a wake up call for those people to take a hard look at themselves if they don't like the critisism.

I agree totally with your statement. I am not against criticism. The main incident that happened at a spirit tour event and the response to it was a bit over the top, but the other person involved was trying to cheat. Look at the big picture of ellen's whole career. Calling her the female Earl Strickland is so far fetched, it is ludiicrous. Some of the mannerisms described are be cause of herniated discs in her neck and a nerve problem in her lower back.

She doesn't use any of these problems as an excuse. Ellen's game has gotten at least 50% better in the last few months.
