Congrats To Jeremy Sossei, NJ State 9 Ball Champion . .

Or Phil dumped so his buddy had some Mosconi credibility??? Why not right. I didn't see them play, but again I wouldn't give up the potential second set advantage to my brother. He gave up a second chance at winning it all and that is nonsense.

Where did you get the Phil dumped"? My guess is he played as hard as he could to win. If he lost, the two of them got in a car TOGETHER and returned to NYC. Seems reasonable to me.

Great minds think alike and yes I would bet it to the sky. These guys can't play elite world class pool consistently enough to matter there. Sure they all beat some big names once in awhile. Look at how many big events they enter. Even if they won 20% of their matches they would claim some big scalps.

To move up in that field you have to be in dead pump for days on end and still get a bit lucky now and then. They just don't have the consistency. Look at Mika's win where he won from the loser's side 13 sets to take it down. The one exception on your list could be Oscar Dominguez who is more established. Still I'd bet it doesn't happen.

You already lost because Sossei came in 7th last year.

Sossei is the most underrated player in the country IMO

I am very good friends with Jeremy and I go with him to many events so I see him play often. I can honestly say that he is easily the most underrated player in the country. He has the ability to beat anyone in the world, and he's proved it over and over. I would suggest that people who are judging him and his game, based on this past weekend, to look into him a little more. I can attest to the conditions this weekend. It was a very difficult thing to do going from the normal outer tables, with totally different aged cloth, rails, lights, pocket facings etc. to the diamond table in the arena. It is like night and day. It took him a few sets to get a feel for the table after only playing a total of 3 sets on it the entire weekend. Another thing that goes unseen is the amount of time he played over those days. We arrived at 12:30 PM Saturday and he played until 2:30am. We had to find a hotel then be back by 11am Sunday and play until 11pm. It was brutal. And believe me, these are not excuses. He knows he didn't perform well and was noticeably upset about that, especially with the Mosconi cup selection just around the corner. Having this said and regarding the people who believe he is low man on the totem pole, you are mistaken. Although I am friendly with a couple guys up for selection, I can honestly say that whether gambling or a tournament, I would gladly back Jeremy playing even 9 or 10-ball against any of them besides Shane and maybe Corey. And he is capable of beating them as well! All of these players know how well he plays. Going back to what I said earlier, please do not let this weekends performance influence your opinion on Jeremy's game. And regarding his set against Travis, many know how well Travis plays. He is really solid. So what does that say about Jeremy where even when he wasn't playing his best he still found a way to grind it out and win that set. That's what we need on the cup. We will be lucky to have him represent us. He is the ideal role model for all up and coming as well as aspiring young players.

Thanks,
Phil

I cringed reading this.

I know these two guys and they are both fierce competitors and there is no give-up in either one of them.

Phil would have loved to be crowned the NJ State 9b Champion, that's for sure.

Phil has a very strong game but when Jeremy and he play even, Jeremy is almost always going to win.

I watched some of the streamed matches this past weekend and yes, it wasn't the usual high-level of play we are used to seeing from Jeremy, and yet he still managed to win the event.

It was much more likely than not that the long drive back to CT (approx 2 1/2 hours) would have been the reason for their agreement to modify and play one set instead of two.

I can tell you that without any doubt, Phil didn't dump anything.

Guys,

Thanks for reminding me of my poor manners. Ed, you da man!!!! The stream was great. The commentary was interesting at the minimum. Hope to have another chance to visit Sandcastle again. Missed SBE this year. My two favorite things about Edison? Sandcastle and Harold's! Miss them both.
