Heard John just won a tourny in New Orleans..............and Jammie Farrel got second. Not sure what tourny, maybe someone else knows more about it.

Jeesh, when God was giving away beautiful stroke, John was there. I wasn't.
I used to see him at Hard Times and Shooters here.
He's one smooth-stroking fool. He'd practice for like 8 hours playing the ghost. He robbed Parica at Shooters getting 9-7 two years ago. He could have played Jose even that night.
I hope I'm not ruining his action b/c he really is no longer a masked man.
Great story on John on BD mag two months back btw.
He deserves all he gets now.
People here in Riverside, OC and LA area miss his actions.
He and Morro used to hook up a ton.
 
He is outta the bag.........He has been in New Orleans playing Jamie somehow. Heard Jamie came over to Milton and played John....so he went over there to his home court!
I have seen John practice a few times......and it is a site. He makes it look effortless at times.
 
I saw John play at the espn zone 7ball tournament, He was knocked out in the first match. It was the first time id seen him play his postion was pretty good, But he looked uptight that could have been why he lost
 
The tournament John won was at Jamie and Glenn's pool room in Kenner, the Corner Pocket.

Don't mean to pry, :D but what are the specs (make, model, pocket size, cushions, etc) on his table?

I hope I'm not the only one who's curious. :)
 
Just a standard Diamond with the Pro cut pockets. And the Dymondwood rails....might be spelt wrong. It is suppose to be more durable than a regular one..........for commercial use.

John and I started playing at almost the same time about 12-13 years ago. When he started playing in my dads poolhall he was an up and coming golfer ( I think he was just about scratch player at age 18). Soon after showing up in the poolhall he started telling people he was quiting golf and he was going to be a pool player. We all thought he was crazy for giving up golf. But there was something different about him I could tell even then, he didn't know much about the game but he knew how to win, he knew how to beat guys that he shouldn't have been able to beat.

Needless to say I am not surprised to see him on top today, I just wish I hadn't quit playing for almost a whole decade. This guy is for sure someone to see play. I hope someday I will be able to play a competitive game with him again.
 
He is back in town now...........and he reads the posts here. Now if we can just learn him how ta type he can talk with us lol! John!!!!! I know your out there!
 
I remember him as "Victorville John" and as Joseph Cues mentioned Schmidt used to match up frequently with Moro at Hardtimes. For quite awhile Morro beat him but John kept coming back at him. At the same time he was learning 1 Hole from Jack Cooney and paying dearly. One day I overheard him tell Jack that he had a "mental thing" going when he played Morrro. John just kept coming at Morro and finally started beating him and no longer had that "mental thing" working against him, the tables had been turned! Shortly thereafter his 1 Hole was so good he no longer needed a spot from Jack. He would occassionally "bust out" and he would disappear for a few days then show up with fresh money. He has a ton of HEART! I watched him get 10-8 from Cliff Joyner, after a Sunday tourney at Hardtimes. Joyner while warming up and waiting for John to finish the tournament. While warming up Joyner looked like God! When the match was finally over (pretty quickly) John looked like he could have given Cliff the 10-8! A real sweet player to watch and a really quick learner. A bunch of us miss him out here!
 
John was running a hundred balls in straight pool out here in California real easy and when he beat a guy I knew in the qualifying tournament out here for the Nationals in NY I knew he was going to do good. Since I was going to go to NY I was going to take all the side action I could as no one back east knew who John was. Well he steps up and beats Mike Sigel real easy. In fact this is the match where Mike breaks his cue. People thought it was a fluke. Then he continues to cut a path but ends up meeting Dallas West. John runs a lot of balls and is leading by a great margin. Then something happens and John cant get his last five balls! Man he was suffering and by the time Dallas came back John was a mess. He kept getting hooked and everything he did fell into the crapper. I wish Accustats had got that on tape. Because I think John who was still young at the time learned a valuable lesson that day and made him into a champion he is today.
 
I'm glad John is doing well. I have met him twice when he came up to the Lower Mainland and he was a total gentleman both times. He is proof that you don't have to be a cocky jerk to be a real Champion. Pool needs more John Schmidt's
