Pool hobbyist/commentator just won his 4th bracelet at this year's WSOP.

It was in 7-card stud, so smaller field and prize money, but still cool to see.

Figured it was okay to post here since he has ties to pool, but if not, please move to NPR.

I really respect wins in stud. And he has two 2-7 bracelets. And a PL PLO/8. Pretty versatile. Didn’t the 5k 2-7 used to be one the players wanted to win? Now is it the 50k mix Chip Reese event? I haven’t kept up with poker. Main event obv for money but the high stakes cash players seemed to want to win some other particular bracelets too

The $10k events (stud, PLO, 2-7 lowball, etc) were referred to as the World Championships of that discipline. Nick has two 2-7lowball $10k bracelets and a $10k PLO8 bracelet. The $50k HORSE (renamed the Poker Players Championship with the Chip Reese Trophy to the winner) is like the all-around championship that all the pro players wanted to win.

Definitely belongs here in the Main Forum. Nick has always been part of the pool community. He and John Hennigan can often be seen at the Derby City Classic. I haven’t seen Nick hit a ball since he was a teenager, but Hennigan has gotten in the grease a few times at the Derby.

Speaking of Hennigan, he's now at the final table of the $10k Razz

Yes, nice to hear. I met Nicky when he was only about 12 years old and we often played pool together back when he lived in New York City. Congrats to him!

I have always liked Nick. I met him years ago playing at the WSOP and have played with him a few times since. We said we were going to setup a pool match, but just never got around to it.

Also, props for the most badass winner's photo I've seen.

In 2004, subject to check, Keith McCready and Ryan McCreesh were en route from New England at a Joss NE 9-ball Tour event to DC. They stopped off at the Golden Cue in NYC to garner up some action. Ginky was in the house, and Keith started barking at him. The two of them had known each other for many years, and Ginky was getting a kick out of it. Ginky decided to grab Nick as his partner and play Keith and Ryan one-pocket with a spot. Keith agreed to the spot. Nobody knew who Nick was, well, except Ginky and the house. And Nick could play.

It was over in minutes, but the barkfest was the most fun for Ginky and the rest of the regulars at Golden Cue. Here's a few photos.

Keith trying to convince Nick as he points to the table. Let's go!

Even Nick couldn't help but smile at Keith's persuasive antics to get in action.

Nick really is very likely the best 2-7 player in the world. He put on a clinic.
I didn’t see it this year, I have seen him play 2-7 and he’s amazing. He’s super gifted at most things it seems, I’ve seen him in the pool room, but I don’t know him. Very happy for his successes, hopefully he’ll do some pool commentary again someday.

Best

Agreed on the commentary. Him and Ali are the best in the booth for poker commentary. I've only seen a couple of his pool commentary vids, but he was great to listen to.

I play in the WSOP most years and have met him and hung out a little. Not saying I'm friends with him, or even that he would remember me, but also a very nice humble guy.
