Niels put up a hell of a fight towards the end there, coming back from 10-3 to 10-7. Had a pretty simple pattern but came up short.

Congrats, Shane!

The Last Great American Hope.
Shane is the best American player that's come along in many years. He's my favorite player to watch play and a credit to American pool. I couldn't be happier for him and his success.

I'm very glad that Shane pulled this off.

How many people here feel like Niels is not mentioned often enough as one of the world's most consistent players...and a beast of a battler???

Someone referred to him as a mid tier pro, on AZ or in the chat. I'm like.. "What??"
Niels is an ANIMAL.

I remember during the finals, Danny DiLiberto said Niels "snuck in" to the finals,
and Mark said "I dunno if snuck in is the phrase I'd use".

It went completely over Danny D's head, he thought Mark was making fun of Danny's
use of colorful phrases, like "snuck in" was a weird set of words to use to describe
a pool player's march through the brackets.

I think what Mark was saying is, anyone who though Niels was some dark horse who
surprised everyone with his high finish... hasn't been paying attention.

Maybe 10 years ago Niels was 'just another pro'. Now he's one of the best.
Multi-time Mosconi Cup MVP, Top 3 finishes in a bunch of majors, etc.

Not most consistent and certainly not in the World Top Tier maybe 2nd or 3rd class...

don't know about mid tier but he's not in the top tier echelon. There are only a handful in the top SVB, Philipinos level he's not up there. If he's being given the 8 on a 10B for the cheese and declines - he clearly states I'm good but not good enough. SVB will chew him up in a long race and the Philipinos will BBQ him in a money game he knows it ask him personally.

A good match between a guy with one eye and an deaf opponent who plays with a $49 cue. :D

Maybe they should enter The Special Olympics.

Do you even watch pool matches online or keep up with tournament results? Niels is of the highest caliber of professional pool players, it would be ignorant to not acknowledge his level of play and to call him 2nd or 3rd class...that's crazy.

He just won the World Pool Masters filled with "World Top Tier" players and came out on top, he also came in 2nd in the World Cup of Pool with his partner, came 4th in the US Open 9 ball, and 2nd in last years DCC Bigfoot Challenge, if that's not consistent then I don't know what is.

I don't know what's your definition of a top tier player is but if when i take a look here http://www.azbilliards.com/people/1356-niels-feijen/results/2013/ it seems to me that he IS a top level pro player (if you go with the money). Do you think that any pro in the world would like if they draw him in their first match of a tournament ?? I don't think so.

He was also making a comeback with SVB but the unfortunate scratch ended his run. Btw, I have you know that Neil came 2nd last year too in the same event. It's just unlucky that he couldn't close the deal this year.
If you look here http://www.azbilliards.com/tours_an...oot-10-ball-challenge/brackets/59-main-event/ you will see that Neil beat Corey (11-2) and Souquet (11-4). That don't look like a mid - tier or an average pro to me.

Regarding SVB chewing him in a long race, well may be or may be not. But SVB is definitely favored to win it.
Filipino BBQ him ?? Filipino is a broad term that includes players from Jose, busty, alex, efren to Carlo and many others, can you say that they won't BBQ any other pro player ?? Cuz they are always strong contenders against anyone in the world. So, I don't know if them BBQing Neil is a fair statement.
