our own Cardiac Kid (Lyn Weschler)from this board and his team mates have won the BCA Team Event in Las Vegas. going undefeated. So Kudos to Lyn and his team.......................................................mike

Wow, that's great news. Congratulations to our very own Cardiac Kid. Bravo!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the kudos. Ralph Ferguson and Phil Karpinski played great pool. This was a TEAM event. Our league, from the Las Vegas Cue Club, placed four of the top six teams in the event. After being slapped around by Jim Blakeman at the BCA Seniors this past May, it felt great to even the score. Even if it was a team event. He and his teammates from Colorado played very well indeed!

The Diamond bar tables played fantastic. If you missed a shot by three or four inches, it hung! The tables had very deep shelves. It was possible to hang a ball so deep in the pocket, you couldn't play rail first to make it! You had to make the ball directly.

Congratulations on your BIG win, Cardiac Kid. What a great time you must have had. There is no better high in the whole world than making it to the top unscathed.

I am eager to learn more about the BCA team format. I remember reading a while back that you are a UPA pro player or touring pro or whatever the correct wording is. If this is the case and everyone is welcome to play, then I am going to find a BCA league in my area and get Keith and me in.

Years ago, I played on the Busch League, and I used to love going out once a week to meet up with my team mates. It really was a lot of fun, and I'm kind of getting a yearning to get back in stroke. Plus, it's a good social activity, one which forms friendships and provides an opportunity for every single caliber of player. That is what I like about the team format.

Again, congratulations. That's a pretty big win, and I hope you enjoy every single minute of it! :)

Jam,

They had a BCA League here about 4 years ago and I liked the format. Everybody (5 players) plays three times (against different players) using a point system (8-ball 7+3) with a handicap system. The problem is that there will always be one team, or two, that is stacked with the best players around. And during the season matches are won and lost according to the handicap system. But in the playoffs there is no handicap and it is just the first team to win 13 matches. 95% of the teams really have no chance against the stacked team(s).

But I liked the format a lot better than the APA way of running 8-ball matches.

And you will find the better players in the BCA. I mean really better players. And of course some players play just to play the better players.

But, somehow I do not see Keith playing in a weekly league.

LOL, Jake! We have a couple of local weekly tourneys in the area with a $20 entry fee, and believe it or not, Keith and I go to these tourneys on occasion just to get out of the house and have a little social interaction with others. Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh and Mike Davis both participate in these local tourneys, and it provides a venue in which they can compete for small change and stay in stroke.

Thanks for the helpful info, Jake. I like the BCA format that you described and think it would be a lot of fun. I know of a couple BCA leagues in my area and will check them out. This will provide me a good opportunity to brush up on my pool-playing skills. I used to be rated a strong 6 and a weak 7 on the Busch League, but I haven't played seriously in over 20 years.

Now that I have hit the half-century mark and desire to get back in the saddle again, like Paul Newman in TCOM, you may hear JAM say the words, "I'm back!," donning my eye glasses proudly!

Reading stories like this one about Cardiac Kid is inspiring to an out-of-stroke player like myself. :p

They have a BCA League at Champion Billiards in Rockville on Monday night. I'm not sure when a new session starts up, or if Keith would even be allowed to play, but it can't hurt to ask.

Congratulations Lyn! You are an excellent player, good sport, great friend and one of the reasons why I continue to promote the sport.

Congrats my friend!

PS That beer is still waiting on you!

Hi Folks,

Way to go Lyn. Nothing like a Diamond table huh? I love the way they play. I wish we had a Diamond or two where we play. Never played Diamond bar tables before though, but regulation - tight but very true. Again CONGRATS!

Sorry Lyn, Austin has something to say. "You are the best pool player in the world. Even better than my dad. Your next tournament you will every game in your match. Congratulations for winning, I am not surprised that you won. Keep your momentum going. Go Philadelphia Eagles 9-1."
