Donnie was the talk of the tournament all week. He was pounding all his opponents with lopsided wins. Even when he played and lost to Ralf in the hot seat match, everyone was talking about Donnie, not Ralf. I had a running dialogue with Donnie all week that went something like this, "Who the hell is Donnie Mills?" We both got a laugh out of it.
Donnie is an easy guy to like; very approachable, humble but proud, and gracious in his victories. He played great all week and had a couple of tough losses. But tough losses are a part of the U.S. Open, the hardest tournament to win in the USA. I just wish Donnie would play in more events. He is a real talent, with lots of courage. He never faltered all week and didn't ever let the pressure of the moment affect him.
He has no reason to feel bad about his performance this week. He played great in victory and defeat. His only losses were to the 1st and 2nd place finishers and both went hill-hill! Donnie Mills proved this week that he is in the major leagues of professional pool. This is one guy who I wish would quit his day job. No telling what he could do for himself and the USA.
