Contact ESPN and say "Thanks" for showing a pool match

Broadcasters do pay attention to viewer comments, so let's contact ESPN and thank them for showing the women's pool match.

The correct link to use is https://r.espn.go.com/members/contact/tvindex

Yes, you have to register with some contact information, so you'll probably get an promo email or two...but that's a small price to pay for the chance to promote pool.

Everybody talks about promoting pool and getting it on TV. Will you take this one, simple step to make it happen?

I will send the message but, the only reason they had it on was they picked the worst thing they had, bowling and pool so as not to waste their good programming against the football playoffs. They don't care anything about pool.

That may be true, but you've gotta start small. They just happen to put pool on as filler programming, get a great response from a whole bunch of people (us) and the next time they have an empty slot to fill, pool will be higher on the list of things to put on.
It's not much, but it's our chance to make a difference and contribute to getting more pool on TV, so keep writing in! Heck, I live in Japan and don't even get ESPN and I wrote in too!

I, too, received a response from ESPN, likely an auto-fill form reply, but it was acknowledged, so that's cool, at least.

As others have said, when we make at least some noise about the subject, someone has to notice. Will it be enough, we will never know if we don't take the 90 seconds it took to fill out the form and submit it to them. I had the 90 seconds to spare, hopefully many others do/did, too....

It would be FANTASTIC if pool could become regular filler programming. It's a heck of a lot more than we've got now.

You are exactly right. They don't regard pool as a timely sport, just an exhibition. In other words, they can show something like pool or a rodeo and it doesn't matter if it was ten years ago or yesterday. No one cares about who wins or even knows the players, they just like to watch the game played. They have actually said this.

That gives pool a slight edge over other sports, in that no one will watch a random baseball or football game from several years ago. Once played those games are worthless. They will however watch pool, or a rodeo, stock racing, demolition derbies, log rolling, strongest man contests and so on.

They are all just fun to watch without caring about the outcome or even when they took place. The seeming popularly of the trick shot stuff proves that to be true. The public wants to be entertained and watch something that is fun. Most professional pool is not really fun to watch, in fact it can be down right boring. Although the public can appreciate how good the players are, they can not watch pool for very long. I am not sure there is anyway to over come that fact.

ESPN likes pool just as much as hockey, almost as much as football and slightly over baseball.....they just don't have any pool representatives talking to them, so this thread is a very positive thing......next we send in the "girls".

What do you base that on? I don't see them clamoring for the rights to set up at the Derby and tape it. It cost money to do that and they don't seem to want to spend the time money to do it. If they really liked pool so much you could not keep them away if they thought there was a market for it. I respect your opinion but there doesn't seem to be any historical evidence to support it.

thank you for the link, definitely leaves one without an excuse. took all of 3 minutes, including this post. great idea!

Done. Here is the message I posted. Thanks for the link, great suggestion!

"I really enjoyed the Lady's pool tournament yesterday watching this instead of the NFL Playoffs. I would tune in any time pool is featured. The commentators and graphics were very well done. Thanks, give us more pool!

Mark"

There's no great mystery how this works,

ESPN is made up of people like any other business. TV people like pool more than other sports on a personal level, but that's not the key. It's like the bar owner that likes an "off brand" liquor, but pushes the "Crown" and "Jack" because it's what is selling the most.....until that "off brand" starts advertising, promoting and sending in the same "hot liquor reps" that "Crown" and "Jack" use.

There's no great mystery how this works, I operated a private club with 630,000 members, we got to see a LOT of beautiful liquor, beer and wine reps on a daily basis....not to mention the RED BULL girls.....they would give you "wings". ;)

Sent ESPN the following:

Enjoyed the Pro Women players 3 hours today (Sunday, Jan. 5). I'll watch any
billiards coverage you provide. Have done so for many years. Keep it coming,
please with both men and women pros. Many thanks.

and just received a very cordial and appreciative reply. Thanks, BD, for contributing this productive thread. As the old adage says: "From little acorns, mighty oaks grow."

Done - I also added a question about why the Mosconi Cup isn't covered at all. I'm sure I'll get the auto-generated reply, but hopefully it'll show up on some report somewhere.
