Melinda,
I just found this thread. I think this is awesome and a great way to represent pool! This definitely speaks highly of you and your support of the game. I would like to be considered for one of your entries to the Dallas qualifier.
I personally have been playing since I was 4 yrs old. I know, I know...."how did you even reach the table?"....I get that a lot, but my dad can testify. Anytime we were around a table he would help me play. My dad was semi-pro quite a few years back and then he had a family and quit playing pool all together until he decided to buy a pool table for our house when I was younger. He taught me many things, of which none stuck until I went to college.
I started playing competitively in collegiate tournaments throughout Texas and even ran a few tournaments during the same time. I spent more time at the pool hall than going to class. My dad didn't care about that, he just told me to keep playing, keep playing. I did well in college and graduated; twice. I moved to Dallas and started a career, but every Monday & Friday I would get some practice time in. I bought a house over the summer and the first thing that I bought for it was a 9' table. I've played on it everyday for the two months I've been moved in and am playing as well now as I ever have. A lot of the practice was for me to get ready for this qualifier and I already told BigDoc that I would be there.
I have always wanted to make it to the US Open and I saw this tournament as a chance at that. I'm still young, only 25, and hopefully will have a few more chances, but this would be the first and I'm working very hard to get there! I may not be the ideal candidate for a free entry, but I'm very proud of what I've done and know where I'm trying to get, and I wish whoever gets the free entries the best of luck! I will be there either way, but a free entry would really help.
Thanks and good Luck,
John
(Oh, and sorry for the fairly long story!)
