Contest: Your Chance for FREE US Open Qualifier Entry - deadline Sept 21

Only 4?

Only 4 people have posted their reasons why they really want to play in the US OPEN. They are all for the Dallas stop, too.

I guess it will be easy for Milo and I to pick.... but it seems the FL Qualifier tournament will not get one... IF no one responds.

<sigh>

Melinda,

I just found this thread. I think this is awesome and a great way to represent pool! This definitely speaks highly of you and your support of the game. I would like to be considered for one of your entries to the Dallas qualifier.

I personally have been playing since I was 4 yrs old. I know, I know...."how did you even reach the table?"....I get that a lot, but my dad can testify. Anytime we were around a table he would help me play. My dad was semi-pro quite a few years back and then he had a family and quit playing pool all together until he decided to buy a pool table for our house when I was younger. He taught me many things, of which none stuck until I went to college.

I started playing competitively in collegiate tournaments throughout Texas and even ran a few tournaments during the same time. I spent more time at the pool hall than going to class. My dad didn't care about that, he just told me to keep playing, keep playing. I did well in college and graduated; twice. I moved to Dallas and started a career, but every Monday & Friday I would get some practice time in. I bought a house over the summer and the first thing that I bought for it was a 9' table. I've played on it everyday for the two months I've been moved in and am playing as well now as I ever have. A lot of the practice was for me to get ready for this qualifier and I already told BigDoc that I would be there.

I have always wanted to make it to the US Open and I saw this tournament as a chance at that. I'm still young, only 25, and hopefully will have a few more chances, but this would be the first and I'm working very hard to get there! I may not be the ideal candidate for a free entry, but I'm very proud of what I've done and know where I'm trying to get, and I wish whoever gets the free entries the best of luck! I will be there either way, but a free entry would really help.

Thanks and good Luck,
John

(Oh, and sorry for the fairly long story!)

Pick me, pick me!

1. People say I play Jam up pool
2. I can ride a bike w/ no handlebars, no handlebars
3. I'm on a hot streak

Thanks for the entry!

On a serious note!

I thought your story was good John. This is the kind of story I like to read. If there was a poll (which I think would be the way to judge winners), I would vote for you!

Good luck Buddy!!

This one too!

A list of reasons why I should be given the free entry into this tournament!

1. Unemployment is at it's highest rate in 20 years, I've sent out a good resume to over 50 companies and have heard nothing over 4 months!

2. As a result of my unemployment (or vice versa) have spent about 4 hours a day 6 days a week for the last year playing pool.

3. Between the US Amateur on Sept. 20, the Texas Open, and my daily pool hall tabs, I am considering not playing this tournament simply because of financial reasons.

4. You probably have no idea who the hell I am and can't be accused of picking favorites!

I want to play the Dallas tournament!

I like this one too!! I vote for Chase too!

I was looking for sincere reasons why people would want to live out their dreams to play in the US Open. That's what this contest is for - a free chance at that. For those that have already stated their reasons - thank you!

Anyone else want to submit a reply? Deadline is still Sept 21st. Less than a week away.

Milo and I appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Melinda

While I was obviously being silly, I believe there have been 4-5 so far that are very sincere. Including my favorite 2 from Da Bank and JohnF.

What a great gesture from our very own ambassador of pool and Milo!!

I can't rep you guys anymore right now, but that will change soon!

Thanks,

Ray

We aren't concerned about the reps - we want to hear more stories.

Everyone counts. We appreciate all the replies. Keep em coming!

Dreams/passion - the love of pool!

You go FLOBOT!!!

I honestly CANNOT believe that there hasn't been a TON more responses to this thread. COME ON PEOPLE - don't be shy!!!!!! I mean, how often does an opportunity like this come along!!!!

Melinda - this is fantastic!!!! I can't praise you enough for doing this!!!! Also thanks to MILO!!! WAY TO GO Y'ALL!!! (Yes, I'm from Texas) :clapping: :happydance:

Some very nice stories!!!! :) Keep em coming guys. I have some favorites, but the deadline is the 21st. CMON GUYS!!!!! FREE ENTRYS!!!!

It has always been a goal of mine to play in the U.S. OPEN 9-BALL tournament. Of course something always happened to to prevent this. Now I have the time and I'm going this year. I have already sent the entry fee to play back in June. If I hadn't done that I would go and play in this qualifier. I might play anyway if they would go ahead and reimburse my entry fee and a little extra $$$. If not I don't might giving a little to see someone else from TEXAS there. Wouldn't it be awesome to see someone win a qualifier and then win the OPEN.

This is pretty cool of you Melinda! I have put people in tournys before as well. Its nice to give somebody an opportunity to play.

I would like to play in Tallahasse.

Going to the US Open would a great experience for me. I went to the US Open 1 pocket tourny to watch once. It would be cool to go play.

And my # 1 reason to pick me.......... Nobody else from Florida seems to want to go!

Wow, Melinda! Kudos to you for your support of the sport!

I would consider puttin in my bid for the Dallas event, but I'm just awful at 9 ball. I'd get laughed out of the place.

Would be nice if I could find a way to go watch, though. I'll have to see if I can manage a trip down there. I could really use a trip like that, right now...
