I shoot with a guy about my age that moved here with his dad from NC......the dad plays with this 30-40yr old asian import thats worth nothing and is made of ramin wood, with a design cut into the butt for the grip....

cue was warped and in horrible condition.....he asked me what I could do with it.....on a cheap $100 budget. As he knew as well as I do the cue is worth more as fire wood than a player or as something of value.

But the mans been having it for decades so he wants to keep it. So I was honest I told him I couldn't really put it in the lathe and do a proper finish b/c of its horrible warp.

Tells me no worries just do it the best I can and he was sure whatever I could do would look a zillion times better, and he had even liked a cue of mine and said after I was done that he would probably get the one he liked and save the "restored" one.

I stripped it and cleaned all the paint out of the gouges that make up the grip and then used my wood burning pen to burnish/burn and sharpen up those grip lines. Stained the cue redish/purple as the cue used to be painted that color, and then applied a golden oak stain to the shaft....

Its still crookeder than a politician but wow I'm telling you that gregarious looking old cue is starting to turn out not too shabby looking.....I think the old man will be very pleased.

Nice to turn some old garbage that aint worth garbage into something at least nice to look at for someone memory sake.

Don't get me wrong normally i would never ever touch anything like that but he wasn't looking for much and I'm not doing that much and hell a few extra hours of my time to hand finish.....thats worth a bill to me especially when he's gonna see that cue tomorrow and say WOW its not ugly no more lol.

I looked at it more as like just a sentimental restoration......its nice having a customer thats not worried about anything but having his old memories preserved in better form.

I'll shoot up some pics of the cue tomorrow after i polish it up b/f delivery....should have taken some b/f pics.....jesus that cue was a mess.....still is just doesn't look like one anymore.

just nice to have someone that isn't expecting the world out of something that could never produce that result.....honest pay honest result...honestly happy on both ends.

must be the holidays,
