Corey Deuel Controversial 10-Ball break at SBE

I was listing more recent tournaments that he has won that the other guy didnt list. Boogeyman says he doesn't believe Corey lives a clean life, whatever the hell that means(seems to be implying drugs). Then king t says he doesnt see him beating anybody or is winning anything & slide13 says he isnt a top tier player. I never said he was winning world class events, Winning what he has been, even though mostly barbox with great fields in all of them by the way & top 5's and top 10's in big tournaments shows he can still compete with top tier guys.
Unless Boogeyman knows Corey personally I wonder what basis he has for such innuendo.

I think you mistook the intent of hos post. I dont think it was intended to be disparaging...he was saying that corey changed the break strategy to make it less of a shooter's game.

Wouldnt you need to be more of a shooter to pick the rack apart as opposed to balls spread out where playing shape is alot easier?

I'm not the only one who took/takes it that way

While not directed at CoRey personally being I do not have any direct knowledge of him and not in an accusatory manner but often people can just look at a person's face and conclude they have lived a hard and fast life - with a great deal of accuracy.

I am curious as well.

From the few times that I've spoken to Corey at Steinway and at the Expo, he has come across as a gentleman, very intelligent and well spoken, as opposed to some other pros we have in this game who probably can't even form a proper sentence.

He's okay in my books.

Also, watching the TAR podcast with him and John Schmidt will also help convince anyone that he does indeed have a proper head on his shoulders.

But then again, I thought the same about Justin Hall, and well you know...

What did Justin Hall do?

I love that break.

I have a similar 9-ball break that I do on my Sunday playing partner when he starts trying to pull the easy break game on me. We play winner breaks. I drive 3 balls to the rail and put the cue ball behind the stack and force him to push out. It drives him crazy. I 3-foul him out many times immediately right after the break with all the balls still on the table.

After a few games of that, he will go back to breaking open with a regular hard break.

I do the same thing, but in a version we play until the loser fouls 5 times. You can only pocket up to two balls on your inning, then you must play safe.

I absolutely admire Corey and how he does things. He is a true student of the game. What better way to find out if you have an advantage than to test it in the field, and against the best player.

All the cry babies sound like what I imagine the whiners sounded like when the first intentional bank shot was executed. Everyone standing around the table in total astonishment "wheres the honor in shooting a ball off the rail?"

A very astute observation. Testing the "long tail" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_tail) is very valid - more so in tournament conditions. Corey is a student of the game and exploring the "corner cases" for break speeds and cueball placement is not only a worthy endeavor but quite in keeping with the science of the sport.

The first person to break from the rail was surely also exploring those possibilities and hit upon something worthy. Why not soft, safe breaks? It could be the next big thing!

Also, it might **** with Shane's head.

Interesting for sure... Ironically, I was sitting 4 rows up and watched the whole thing live.

He was pissed because Corey's break wasn't sending 3 balls into the rail.

This clip was Corey's second break (i think,,, because he actually made the one ball on his first), and Shane took ball in hand even though it seems to be a legal break now in the video. They had a referee watch the rest of the breaks and even video taped them for proof.

I honestly don't know why he was breaking that way, it didn't seem to do anything positive for him.

I would love to hear why he was doing it that way.

BTW it is required 4 object balls to the rail not 3

Corey should be banned from competing, until he stops with this BS break stuff, I have seen him do it many times before in 9 ball. Sure, it`s not illegal, but it`s bending the rules to a point where the game is pointless.
Corey should start practicing actually playing and upping his game, so he don`t have to rely on BS stuff like in the video to stay in the game.

This is why we can't have nice things

unless it is being recorded or a ref is specifically watching for this on the break I imagine it is often difficult to determine how many balls hit a cushion after the break. However, with Corey doing this on a regular basis I suppose people would be more alert

I have a very different view of the rules and the game than you do.

I think you should take up 1 ball pool. 1 on the spot, whoever pockets it wins. No soft breaks - so no rail after contact rule. If you sink the 1 on the break, you win. If you don't, you lose. It might just be the game you are looking for.

It's just like you participating in the one pocket event.
Imagine if one of your opponents just called their pocket and blasted the balls wide open like Corey did against Shannon ages ago.

And imagine they consistently hooked you or didn't leave you a shot in the process.
Would you be mad that they broke with tradition or came up with something new?

Obviously, with Allen's rules, if they made a ball in their pocket, it would be a rerack (which I don't understand) but if it's within the rules, why the heck not?

It's just like novice players who don't know how to kick a ball or jump a ball in 9ball or 10ball.
Just 3 foul them all day long, and watch them complain how their opponent is cheating, or too scared to run the balls, or playing PU**Y...umm...KITTY pool, all because they are losing or don't know how to deal with it.
It's the same exact thing.

People just need to get over it.
These guys aren't playing for fun and games. They are playing for MONEY. They play for a living.

Who cares what the heck they do.
Just the fact that they are actually out there plugging away in a sport that pays nothing gets my full respect.
All these people who get all butthurt about it, just need to stop with their nonsense.
It's not like they matter anyway.

It's certainly not going to affect the players either way.

I would hardly call these wins. This looks like a resume for our local shortstop, a couple bar table tourneys here and there. They might have couple killers in the field, but let's call a spade a spade.

Most of these events were FULL of killers. Also not sure if you noticed but barbox is taking over pool these days, he's ahead of the pack once again. He's an angle shooter for sure, but that doesn't mean he's not a great player.

Should he be like Shane and play with the one ball till he gets a gap between the 2 balls behind the one? Or like kiamco who made the same # ball in the side pocket every time?
These 2 people are cheating and should be banned, Corey should not!

Lmao! He should be banned?!? Hey, there is a thread about putting "banned" under you screen name! You should go AND stay in that thread:)

Come on pal, that's Corey! Always pushing the limits! He's like Chrysler, always trying out new ideas while everyone else watches and tries to make it better!

He IS the innovator! Whether you like it or not;)
