Thanks for the link, I've wanted to see that shot again, ever since I saw in on TV a year or two ago, and I've practiced it several times. It is one of the best "TV" shots ever. Ive heard several people comment on that shot.

Yeah, he made a great shot. Then missed an easy nine ball. Don't practise this shot, practise good patterns and consistantly making balls, so you don't look like an idiot making an awesome run out then missing an easy nine.

As good as this shot is, his draw shot at the Mosconi Cup a few years ago was better.

man... i love watching corey because you know at some point, he's going to do something totally unorthodox.

that being said, i think his best shot came from the 2003 mosconi cup where he played nick van den berg. anyone remember that shot. anyone can find it online?

He's really good with the whitey. I remember he did several of these draw shots, one against Efren, almost similar to this one which led to some of us punching each other at other forums about what time he hit the ball..I mean the contact point. However as td873 put it, it's really not that difficult if the balls are new.

He kicked at the 3-ball for safe but it went it.
You should meet with CD and tell him that.
 
Yeah this is definitely one of my all-time favorite shots by one of the smoothest players around. If anyone has this match on dvd, 2004 US Open Deuel vs. Immonen, or the other one that somebody mentioned with him at the 2003 Mosconi Cup vs. Nick Van Den Berg, please pm me. I have a small collection going but am missing these two. Thanks. Vince.

I've read more often than not at how "not so difficult" that shot is, but I have to be honest in admitting that I can't do it. My problem is, and I really don't consider it a problem is that I can't get the cb to break away like that before the draw takes. As you can see in this shot, the draw doesn't start to REALLY take until just before it hits the cushion. My draw takes quicker than that, and in that particular lay, I'd actually risk running into the 7. I may not be seeing it right, but I could never punch it hard enough to get that kind of delayed draw action and still maintain any accuracy. I must be the lesser player:( .
But I'm still pretty sure that I could have gotten out of that lay.

Great Shot

I like how the cue ball switches gears after it hits the rail. I remember another shot by Corey that was pretty similar but he was all jacked up on the rail. In this shot, he did have some room to stroke the cue ball well, which make it a little easier. Bottom line, he has a unbelievable stroke.
 
i saw this shot live i was in the 2nd row right behind him. when he hit that shot the place went nuts!!!!!!!

i personally dont like CD. he has a bad attitude. hes the next earl. i saw him at the open a few years back kick at a ball in the side (he was right over that pocket) he hit the ball and scratched. he caught the qball before it could scatch and spiked it on the ground very hard. cueball bounced about 5 ft in the air he caught it and threw it on the table. poor

he was angry about position ,kicked that 3 in. and was angry about that position. he shot that shot in disgust. it looked pretty though

that was the 2003 mosconi match against nick van den berg. Corey broke and pushed out to be frozen on the end rail. the 1 ball was frozen far away (past the side pocket) on one side of the long rail, and the 2 ball was nearly frozen to the other long rail (before the side pocket).

nick gave the shot back to corey and corey jacked up, hit down on the cue ball with a lot of right hand english (and a hopping draw) to fire the 1 ball in, then the cue ball stayed still for half a second before racing diagonally back to the other long rail to leave him perfect shape on the two in the upper left hand corner (he played short side!!!)

unfortunately, corey was playing two rail position for the nine on the lower end rail by shooting the 8 into the upper left corner. the cue ball went to the upper head rail before slipping (what are the odds?) into the side pocket. van den berg wins the match and i think i saw corey crying....

i wouldn't call him the next earl though. i mean we all have bad days.

I believe this the one we were all talking about at other forums whether he used his break cue or not..I think the screen wasn't clear enough..but it sure was a solid chop.

For that shot you have to hit it harder to get it to follow the tangent longer before it bites. Once it bites it's coming to the rail spinning with just draw relative to the shot but with right draw relative to the rail which causes it to shoot off to the side and back like it did.

Great shot and great stroke, but I have to nit-pick: your placement of the 4-ball and CB was much straighter than Corey's shot. That's why your draw takes sooner and doesn't have the flashier banana-curve after the rail that Corey's had.

Corey's shot is so impressive because with the angle he had, the draw was working the whole way to the rail just to stop the CB from going FORWARD, and then only after the rail does the spin finish taking, and really bring the ball back. That's what impresses me so much, is that he had enough angle that he had to keep the CB spinning not only all the way to the rail, but additionally keep it cranking after it came back out, in order to finish turning the CB back downtable.
