I guess that all depends on your design intent or building philosophy. Theoretically you could float a dowel inside with .020" clearance and let the foaming glue fill the gaps as Dave was alluding to and it will "function". But if you care or give any thought to resonance and how that layer of foam effects the feel of the hit then that glue just becomes a vibration deadener, dulling the hit. Having said that if you don't buy in to that school of thought then it is a moot point.just how precise do you think it has to be????? if you can slide your coring dowel through it........... isn't it close enough????
