How weird would it be to see him just show up at your local room and play in the weekly handicaped tournament? That is exactly what happened last friday at Chalkies in Merritt Island. Everyone loved it (except a few who had a problem with his being ranked as a simple A player; they thought he should have given more weight). That kid sure can play!! That dude is impossible to hide on the table, I think it is impossible to 3 foul him.

That's friggin' awesome. I would be calling everybody and my mother if he showed up on a Monday night at the Green Room in South Jersey for handicapped nine ball.

Anybody having a problem with his attendance is a moron; it's not like he is showing up every week and dominating.

I would be taking pics and ask for his sig. after playing a set with him, if I were so lucky to be able to shoot him.

That's pretty cool. It must have given the locals a thrill! :)

I ain't ever seen a 7-ball tournament. That's quite unique!

I do remember being on the road years ago and landed in a pool room in Tennessee, somewhere in the hills. I got my first taste of moonshine there and remember how it burned my throat. When we walked in the joint, they were playing a friendly ring game of 3-ball. The games went by fast and furious and we were stuck big time before we got the first shot. :o

Why did y'all pick 7-ball?

Speed I guess, but the damn thing still runs till close to 3:00 AM sometimes.

hmm. im glad i play in nyc then. ppl pop up all over the place in our weekly open tournament in masters.

although i have yet to see corey pop up and play. that be nice.

I was playing golf with Corey a few weeks after he won the $25,000 sudden death 7-ball challenge a couple of years back. He had just got put out of the UPA Atlanta Open. We were riding in the cart and talking about him possibly matching up with someone later that night. He says " I don't think I should match up with anyone in 9-ball right now, but if they want to play 7-ball, I can play the hell out of that. " The foursome was Corey, Gabe Owen, myself, and another friend. We all had a good laugh at that one.

Such notables as Troy Frank, Cliff Joyner, Stevie Moore, Jonathan (Hennessee) Pinegar, Nick Vita, Wade Crane, Shannon Daulton, Sarah Rousey, Rachel Abbink, etc. have all shown up for the Diamond Billiard Club monthly $1000 added 9 ball tournament in Chattanooga, TN.
If I am not mistaken, the only one to snap it off has been Hennessee.
By the way. It is THIS WEEKEND!
I am told there is GUARANTEED ACTION for ANYONE.

I have not seen a weekly 7-ball tournament, but I did run across a weekly 6-ball tournament once when traveling for work. Since they did not know me, they would not let me enter. The weekly 6-ball tournament was strictly for the regulars.

Just not too long ago at the pool hall i work at, we had Shane Van boeing stop by, i think charlie bryant stop by as well, not to mention marco marquez as well. P.S. I had the pleasure to play corey duel in chess....and beat him,... but he is pretty good on the chess board as well.

I was down at the South Padre tourney a few years ago and Corey flew in unannouced to see a friend of his play since the tourney was amateur only. Corey ended up playing one pocket on a bar box at a bar just down from the convention center after the tourney was over for the day. This guy can play on anything. Amazing to say the least and a great guy!

He hasn't played in any of our local room tornaments any time lately, but he is a pretty usual site down here.
I did get a chance to play him for king of the hill in a recent Seminole (bar box) 9ball tournament. He split first in both tournaments.

When I was living in Toronto my buddy calls me and wakes me up to tell me that Mika was at the hall that we play out of. I threatened him that if I go all the way there and he was lying that it would not be good for him.lol
Turns out he was telling the truth.

Making Corey a standaard 'A' is just like handing the money to him. Whenever a pro showed up at my local tournament, they would make a special handicap for him. Paul Potier had to give the 5 out instead of the 6 and he still won. I saw Mika have to give the ONE out to EVERYONE, He won at least 2 rounds.

Not in masters.

Albeit its only a race to 5 on the winners and 4 on the losers, its a scratch tourney (even up). Mika came thru 2 months ago and spanish pete took him down 5-0. after mika missed the first ball of the match. then in the final that night Alejandro beat him (mika) 7-2! (finals one race to 7) lol. the only ones to come thru and win that tournament is .... danny harriman. ive seen neils come then lose in the final to park. ive seen lining come thru and lose 5-0 to another shortstop after missing one ball.

the list of well known pros that have passed thru there since summer.

mika, fejien, harriman, lining, shin park (actually stayed for a few months beating everybody), alex lely (robbed somebody blind in banks), sparky, hatch, manalo a while ago, reyes but he just played ginky some str8 pool.
stalev keeps saying he will pass by but then ends up in front of the computer at another pool hall playing poker all day.

but the two best ones that came thru and nobody knew was the mexican, and some polish (kid) champ. they the only two ive seen beat park.

also all the top nyc players. there is so many..

I don't think anyone would object to his showing up and playing, but let's be fair, rating him a standard "A" player is like awarding him the tournament.

About 8 years ago in Queens, NY, we had some nice weekly tournaments, 1st place $1,000 plus - remember one time $3,200 at BBC. Frankie Hernandez, Joey K., and some other "pros", and semi-pros would always show up and play, but they were rated A+ and A++. They would have to give, maybe the five or six plus one or two on the wire in a race to 7, race to 9 in the finals. They would still win an awful lot, but at least it was fair.

They wouldn't let Ginky play sometimes. I personally, would not have minded.

So, respect? Yes. But hand the tournament to him, absolutely not.

That Corey can safely be rated an 'A+' speed, and ESPECIALLY in 7 ball.
The 7 ball today is a TOTAL JOKE. The old 7 ball where the breaker had to pick which side of the table where he had to make the 7, and his opponent had the other side, was a much better game.

I can't hardly believe that a 7 ball tournament would run till 3 am if you got started at a decent hour.

Yes, forgot exactly how it was stated, but that is what I meant by A+, or A++.

Yes, played in some at the Golden Q, after the calcutta was eliminated. Before that mostly at Whitestone Billiards, Bayside Billard Club (before Slate) and Millinium. Also played at Leisure Time on Long Island for a short time. (tough field, went weeks without getting past the first round - ugh!).

By the way, grew up in Lower Manhattan, within walking distance to Pell St.
