I was cleaning my table with a wet towel and noticed a darker line toward the middle of the table by the side pocket. I have been noticing some odd rolls periodically as well. I felt the table and it feels like a crack. How do you fix that? Thanks

Is it possible to inspect it from underneath?( to verify that it is in fact cracked)
Or would the crack not be visible because of the support beams?

Could be a string under the cloth too, it'll feel just like the slate is cracked, and even give you a line to feel, just like a cracked slate;)

I will check to see if it is a string. But if it is a crack, is there anything I can do to fix it?

Yes, there are a few repair options to choose from, based on how bad the crack is and where its located.

If its a string or other debris, you should be able to slide it around a bit under the cloth. Obviously a crack won't move.

that aint good news.
were you able to physically see any evidence of cracking from underneath?

once you are sure its a crack, the next step is to determine how bad it is, which will determine what the proper solution is, and that really cant be done with the rails and cloth still on. (without expensive sonography equipment)

No crack underneath which I hope is a good thing. Hopefully my table guy will be over next week to check. I have a big money match coming into town in early June and don't need this guy throwing up excuses as to why he lost his shirt.

If you find a crack, I think it was Zack (reverand) who posted an ingenious repair method if you want to search for it. He used small steel rods imbedded across the crack (or break) and then Bondo to fill, sand, finish and even used grey slate colored paint to blend. Looked like an incredible fix to me!
