LOL So I woke up this morning with a crazy idea. The Discovery channel. Yep that's right the discovery channel. You know all those Biker build off shows. Same thing but with cue makers. Behind the scenes in the shop with cue builders. Kinda Miami Ink/American Chopper type of thing. HAHA I can See it now..........."Tonight on American Cue. Richard Chudy is under the gun to get his Ivory Bullet cue done in time. Can He do it?" Then people would be all over pool and cues. :grin:
 
Actually I like that idea. It would be great to see different cue makers on a 30 min show to get a taste of what they do and how they do it.
 
Its funny you mention this. I like the show "How its made" on Discovery channel except when the make retarded shit like carpet and underwear. I have always hoped that that show would do an episode on cue sticks or pool balls, or even pool tables. That would be cool!

They did two actually, one on cues done at McDermott and one on Tables but don't remember the Co.

They did one on cues and pool tables. I believe it was Falcon cues. It was super generic and provided very little information that you could use.
 
That sounds like a great idea. Theres only one way to find out. Call the producers and throw the idea past them. Theres also 1000s of hobby woodworkers out there so that would catch their interest as well.
And a few different variations of the show are possible. Rookie build off, celelebrity build off. The amateurs/celebritys would be under the supervision
of a professional builder and the finished product will be judged and tested
by a panel of professional builders, woodworkers and players. Pit two builders against each other and the clock, like the Iron Chef. With some of the ridiculous reality shows that keep popping up, it seems they're running out of ideas for shows.

I actually found the Discovery Channel contacts and phone numbers. Maybe I'll give them a call and pitch it. Also lets hear from any cue makers out there. Would you do it?
 
Orange County Pool Room

Why Not a Orange County Pool Room where beginners are made ready for tournaments. Barbara Beginner is up set with her trainer because she can't draw a Cue ball and the resulting BS that makes the story. Of course one issue is Barbara's Breasts hanging out and get in the way of the Cue stick. Got to add some sex to make it a go. But just look at all the drama about APA on this site as part of the story line. Yes Barbara you will be playing Sandbagging Sandy in your first round. Next weeks show is about Run Out Ronnie, But Judy only needs 5 Balls and gets them. Run Out Ronnie gets up set because she slops in 3 balls and of course the resulting Drama that is all part of reality TV.

This can't an worst than the Crap on TV today.
 
Man I tell ya, I think most everyone on here knows that I love all aspects of the billiards biz and I would want nothing more that to see something like this happen. However I think that people would not want to see a cue being made everyweek. I agree that it would be interesting to some but the audience would be too small to keep it on TV. Not trying to be negative just real. keepthe ideas coming maybe one fine day we will get something cool on TV.
 
You always have to play devil's advocate with ANY idea. In this case, why would anyone want to watch pool cues being built fast over furniture being built fast?

You have to put yourself in the shoes of the NPN (non pool nerd) to see if an idea would really fly. In this case, sorry... it wouldn't. If pool were popular, maybe. But now, nope, not a chance.
 
How about a cue maker that builds cues for companies...kinda like american chopper. Each cue would feature themes about the company.

Just another idea in the hat.

The only problem is that cue makers never finish anything on the promissed timeline so all the drama would evaporate. (ok maybe only the cuemakers i have dealt with, i can't speak for all of them).:grin-square:
