Create An Auction Section

Is there any way that an "auction section" can be set up here on AZBilliards? There has been talk in the Wanted section of what a good idea that would be. I can't speak for everyone but I would love to have a section where we could auction and purchase cues for free without having to deal with all of the hidden costs of ebay. It may not be possible but its just a thought.

One thing to consider is any breach of contract. That is what some of e-bay's fees are for. What would happen if someone defaulted on a bid or did not send the merchandise? I know some people on this board have had problems with this in the past. I like the idea, but if Mike decides to do this all possibilities should be discussed.

I totally agree with what you are saying. However, I still like the idea of a free auction. As with any Internet auction there are risks the person would have to enter into the situation knowing that. AZBilliards could use a disclaimer stating that in no way are they responsible for any losses. People would just have to be careful who they buy from. Most of us know who the reputable members are here. Anyone member in question would have to prove themselves. Being able to leave feedback would be a valuable tool. Just a thought.

Kentucky1pocket,

The problem that I see is that you are re-inventing the wheel, and putting the burden on Mike. Ebay works fine for what it is, and the classified section serves it's purpose as well.

People from AZB who want to bid on things can do it on ebay. There is a bigger market on ebay so what advantage would there be by doing an auction here?

i agree that e-bay is great for auctions. if you have an item for sale do it here, and leave the auctions on e-bay.
btw, anyone who screws someone on a deal here should be ostrasized(sp?), and the deed should follow the dick around the internet until it gets resolved.

Getting into the online auction business is expensive and it requires a lot of capital just to get your arms around the accounting and legal aspects of the business. E-bay is product comprehehnsive. Whether its a Jeanette Lee autographed cueball or a Julia Child autographed apron you're looking for, E-Bay is where you look.

By giving us the Wanted/For Sale section of the AZB forum, I think Mike does more than his part to facilitate transactions invovling pool-related merchandise.

I have auction software installed on the server that could be turned back on pretty easily. When it was up before, it was never used though.

That sounds cool. I think alot of people might use it now. Several people advertising on the wanted adds have mentioned that they would like to have an auction section. They are newer members and may not have had access before.
