Hey guys im new to the forum.
ive decided that im going to try to emulate shanes break perfectly.
not as easy as it sounds haha.
heres a link to a video of me http://vimeo.com/61490621
i had too much coffee so im kinda shaky and the video is kinda poor quality.
please just critique it. any tips or pointers are very appreciated. i know my accuracy isnt the best in a couple clips but just focus on my form. once again i was kinda cracked out on coffee.
thanks so much guys, and fire away.

Here is what I would recommend. Stand more upright. Break like you are throwing a right hand punch.
Instead of throwing your body forward try twisting. Twist your shoulders and hips at the same time while pushing with your right leg. That is how boxers learn to hit so hard. They use their legs for the power. The leg muscles are much stronger then the arms.
It will feel awkward until you learn to get the shoulders and hips at the right speed,so start slow and easy.
I do it like that. I'm 65 years old and not very strong but I can crack that rack.

im gonna work on that. i know hillbilly really emphasizes the importance of the hips but i dont ever think about it. thanks for the response.

I wouldn't change much. You look just like Shane when he breaks. Just keep practising and focus on getting a really clean hit on the cueball. If you hit the cueball in the right place it'll pop right up like Shane and squat itself. Just a hair above center ball and it'll pop and squat.

Keep doing what your doing, it's workin well.

Looks good

I'm working on my break, SVB's break is unique. He seems to use more wrist than anything. Not to much body movement-I believe that's how he has so much control on the break...and hits em so square on.

Check out the wrist in this photo-just before he lets it loose.
Gonna work on mine tomorrow :-)

yeah good point. have you ever noticed how much he sidearms it. at the end of his backswing he tucks his elbow and cocks his wrist away from him. its like throwing a baseball. thanks for the responses you guys.

I could'nt see it much, but it looks like the cueball's gone wild like a 17 year old girl on spring break. Control dat chit.

Try it with your feet and body about six inches closer to the table. Initially it will feel like you're "crowding the table" but when you raise your body and time the stick delivery with the twist of your torso, you'll find you're actually in the right place.

One way to judge the distance from the table is to stand upright at the table with your body parallel to the table, with the tip of the cue just touching the CB with your grip in it's normal position on the cue. Position your body so your grip is at your right hip (essentially you're using your "ending position" to determine your starting position). Get down on the shot from there. As mentioned above, you'll feel like you're crowding the table...but it can result in a strong shot with good control.

If you watch SVB's break you'll see that he starts out closer to the table and twists his torso so its parallel to the table at the end (you're at about 45-degrees because you'd fall over if you tried to get to parallel from so far away).

I'd give you a c

You look tense, your muscles have to be loose to hit a hard and accurate break shot. Try breaking slow at first, making sure you're not tensing up through impact. Gradually increase your speed as you can keep your hit on the head ball more square.

Think smooth and long stroke, not hard. Speed will come with how smooth you get through the ball.

Good luck
