CSI 10 ball

We need Joe Rogan up in here announcing players! or in the booth doing color.:grin-square:

Ken is the Tournament Director for the event.

That said, what had to be said to the other player at the moment his opponent was breaking only 4 feet away right as he was breaking?

I watched it all as it happened and even before the break I could see Busty had it on his mind and tried to block it out and break fast. He could have stopped and waited for them to finish having their chit chat, but he seriously should not have had to. He should not have been put into that situation at all.

You can defend it and pretend it is totally cool and no one should worry about it; or you can realize it kind of does matter if you want a truly professional sport and make sure that things like this slowly get settled and removed from the game of pool. You would never see that take place in snooker, if the TD came down and started chatting with a player while their opponent was shooting only feet away that would simply not fly.

I dont know what happened I was working on something else. You are entitled to your opinion I was just pointing out the fact that Ken is the TD and not just a commentator so him speaking to a player is not unusual.

You could be 100% right and Ken Shuman is whats wrong with pool.

...or it could have been just a dumb move, and acknowledged as such.

Very well could of been.

As stated all my post was designed to do was impart the knowledge that Ken Shuman is the TD and not just a commentator.

I don't care if he's Jesus Christ ,, he should know you don't talk to a player while the other one is at the table ,, my 12yr old daughter know better than that

I guess after watching a first class streaming event people expect a little to much

It seemed a little odd that Kenny was standing there talking to Shaw. But what I think happened is he got trapped behind Busty since he moved into breaking before Kenny could get out of the way. So rather then walking past while he was down on the ball he stood next to Shaw and waited till he broke the balls. Shaw could have been the one who stimulated the conversation. I'm sure Kenny wasn't speaking loudly.

Still it was a little odd

<----whats wrong with pool

Nah, there is no one person that is wrong with pool, and all things said and done I think your contribution to this sport has been a massive overall positive Justin.

But let me post a non-joke for a second and tell you what I do think is a large part of the problem with pool.

The people who promote the sport and are in charge of pool tend to have large egos and when mistakes are made and they are made aware of those mistakes instead of admitting mistakes and saying "yeah, that was totally wrong and we will be making sure that does not happen in the future" we get excuses or the issue is swept under the rug and flippantly ignored.

There are things that are wrong with the commentating of pool, the bulk of the fans of the sport have commented on the issues with overwhelming majority as to the direction they would like to see things go, but instead of positive actions in the right direction such instructive criticism is met with defensive reactions by those who make the decisions and it seems almost a willful purposeful intent to "not" make the changes because to do so would be to admit that maybe they could improve on some of their decisions in a way that other people have suggested.

I think you are one of the better people who this sport has with regard to the above issues and when you were in charge with TAR you actually had a thick enough skin and enough self confidence (as opposed to ego) to admit mistakes and take advice that ended up creating a better overall product.

Not everyone is like you though, many have lots of ego masking low self confidence and it creates a very big problem in creating positive changes in the sport. It is one of the main reasons we have been spinning our wheels for decades. Many of the pros that the promoters have butted heads with are in reality very similar people and that is what caused so much of the tension and in-fighting that has led to nearly a whole generation of American pros being on the outside looking in on so many events.

I do not mean this post to be negative and I hope it is read with an open mind because ultimately when you get past any individual issue pool has I think the above is one of the main overall issues pool is struggling with.

I think a lot of the comments on the event have merit and some of the commentator comments. I will do my best to address those. Some are just dogpiles and those I ignore or ridicule.

I agree with you on the ego thing causing a lot of strife. I chalk that up to one sad fact of pro pool at least in this country. It lives only because of passion. There is no viable economic reason for someone to get in the business. The only driving reason is passion. While this can be a good thing it is also a double edged sword. I'm as guilty of it as anyone.

When people do something for passion, reason and compromise can easily become casualties. Players, promoters, vendors and fans included.

Edit to address the commentator thing: Far as I can tell no one in the game has managed to figure it out. Not TAR, not POV, not Bigtruck and not even Matchroom. After every event there is a thread or comments about how terrible someone was. So I dont worry that much about it. In this format getting info out about the standings is critical so that I give a lot of weight to and will address it the best I can. The other stuff about who talks too much or who tells stories or whatever I honestly dont pay attention to.

Did not look at that aspect, but that was well said and definitely something I need to keep in mind. As opinionated as I am on this stuff if I ever "did" get into a position of control I would hope to be more "open" to suggestions but I am as guilty as anyone as being fairly set in my views and would have to see things fail badly for a while before I admitted I was wrong myself...

+1 post there JCIN. (unfortunately I must spread it around... :/)

I as much as anyone lament the shape Pro pool is in , in the USA . I don't know what its going to take to get it back on track

I remember the surge in the mid 80s after TCM was released as this was around the time I began my journey in pool

but even then you could see the fractures forming in the Pro ranks

I guess it will take someone with very deep pockets , a great business sense and a passion for the game to get together a viable Pro Tour , but even then its going be a long process and I cant see any overnight fixes just my 2 cents worth
