Looks like Mark Griffin and his CSI have come together with Pool 300 per the new release on AZ Homepage. Pool 300 is a cool all offense game scored like bowling and balls are run in rotation. IMO this game is really going to take off now. I would like to see some open tournaments with the pros in them. A few years ago I was asked to go around the southeast poolrooms with MR. 400 to sign places up to put Pool 300 leagues in them. I had to turn him down for health reasons. I always thought the game would take off if prmoted right. Johnnyt

This looks really interesting and fun. A couple questions that couldn't find the answer to.. If you had a league would you play against one opponent or more and if you do would it be just one game (three frames) or best of three etc. Also i noticed that on the sample score sheet they have a number under handicap but they don't explain it on the website (unless I totally missed it). How do you figure the handicap? thanks much; looks like something me and my buds might have some fun with.

I believe your leauge keeps track of everyones scores/handicap. The rest of your questions I can't answer. Johnnyt

I think the game would be more attractive to higher-skilled players. I've tried Pool 300 a few times while practicing. I get very low scores (cuz I'm not that good) and ALWAYS forget that I don't have to hit the lowest ball first. I think that tweak will cause a lot of people problems.

(I also don't like offense-only games. I may as well just sit at home, play alone, and post my results to the internet.)

Just my inexperienced 2 cents that you didn't actually ask for. :)

Its 3 frames per round and you play 2 rounds per night.
You have a 4 player team that plays against the other 4 player team which is set up to be just like a bowling match.
The handicap is based on 90% of 60 because a perfect score on pool300 is 90 when playing 3 frames and the 3rd frame being treated as if it were the 10th frame in a normal bowling match.

Thanks for the answers ! Sounds fun; so the team with the highest points for both rounds win? Seems like this would be a nice way to do individuals as well instead of a team. I like it. I am confused about one thing though; what's it mean that you don't have to hit the lowest ball first? I'm assuming you break and get nothing. Then you must start in rotation order right? So if you don't get anything you have to start with the 1 ball? or can you start with say the 3 or so then just play from there? If you start with say the 3 ball what happens if you run 3-10? but still have the 1&2 left on the table.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the game, becoming a league operator or anything else about Pool300. scott@pool300.com 214-597-5232.

The handicap is manually figured after the first night of play and then it is automatically updated each week by League Sys.

It is basically the difference between your score and 60 multiplied by 90%.

Add the total of your first 2 rounds. Lets say you shot a 35 and a 45. add them together = 80 divide it by 2 and round down. = 40 60-40 = 20 20 x 90% = 18 your handicap is 18. it will change weekly depending on the scores you shoot, just like bowling or golf.

If you are coming to the Texas Open this week, stop by the booth and check it out. If you are coming to Vegas for BCAPl , check us out there and pick up a free pool case patch.

I've been thinking that a game like this, Fargo, or Bowlliards could be good for the pro game. The reason being is it allows players to compete against the field rather than every thing being match play. This in turn would allow for multiple cameras to cover different players with meaning. You can determine who the leaders are at any point in time and focus the cameras on those players like in pro golf.

Maybe a good start would be to have "stroke play" determine the final 8 and then go single elimination match play from there (sort of like pro bowling). For sure it would make tournaments with large fields go faster.
