Gotta say, looks like photoshop. Too coincidental that that chip comes off right by the number.

I dont know. check out the facebook link under the photo. guy seems like he is generally interested if this has happened to anyone else. you would think if a guy was going to take the time to photo shop a pic he would do it with a clear photo?

I've seen a thread on this before though with a pic of a 9 ball inside. Someone mentioned that it was common and not some kind of conspiracy, but I'm no expert on the subject.

I don't see how that method of making cue balls would be a good idea.

This picture is accurate. I have seen them before broken open like that and in half when they originally came out. As long as they roll true, the only issue is that they were soo expensive.

How would they pull this off, the cue ball would necessarily be larger than the object balls, which I've only seen on old Valley tables?

No, they just use smaller balls to "add on to". They could possibly be old balls that are extremely worn and have become significantly undersized, or more likely they are just taking old ball sets and grinding them down themselves. Sphere making machines could reduce the ball sizes very quickly and uniformly.

These Aramith balls work in older Valley returns that separate the cue ball with cue balls that have metal in center. They take an out of spec ball , turn it down and then put an outer sphere of white metallic composite so it will return correctly. A way to use the balls and make a ball that out plays old balls with metal centers or oversized cueballs.
