Cue balls? Whats your fav?

Whatever cueball comes with the set so they are matched in weight and material are the ones I prefer. If the set gets too old then the cueball plays lighter which isn't good either.

In my opinion it is not so much the weight of the ball, as the friction on the surface of the ball , that could change the way it moves.

If you can, please get a micrometer and measure the dia's..... my red circles are almost .013" smaller than either the blue circle or the measle ball. It's been a while since I measured them, but I know I found one that was .019 thou smaller.

This is why I don't like them. They have to react a little different coming off the rails, if the Dia's are not the same.
I would love to know the diameter numbers from anyone who has one. They also seem to have a glossier finish on them(after polish), if that makes any sense.

Great thread John......

I'm stickin with the blue circle and or the measle ball.

Thanks for all the opinions!!. John B.

John,

Thanks for your continued contribution to AZ.

I have a vague story about you from beechmont billiards, maybe you remember?

Probably a few years before it closed...maybe 2002-2004?

There was a guy who came in and beat one of the strong local players. You were called in, arrived maybe 1am? You gave the guy the 8 on table 1 and beat him. Again I know my story is vague but maybe you recall.

I believe the player had curly hair.

Maybe I should have said that little clunky thing it does every now and then. I'm just never sure when it's going to happen. Maybe the hop and skid are kinda at the same time?

I don't think the oball skids, just the cball does something funny? Wish I could explain it better to ya. John B.

I'm assuming "hop" is vertical skid.

Actually some very interesting replies here. Some do contradict info from Aramith though. Many have mentioned that the Red Circle that I prefer is a lighter cue ball. I consulted Aramith on this & they state there is no difference in size or weight between the Red Circle, Blue Circle, Measles , Red Logo or Blue Logo balls.

The differences in them is the materials. The Red Circle has a Carom finish which is what gives it the different look and why it draws better which gives some players the idea it is lighter, it isn't.

The "carom" finish must be the glossier surface I notice compared to the blue circle CBs here in my local pool room. Sounds like that could be the cause of easier draw: slicker surface = more backspin remaining on the CB when it reaches the OB = more draw.

But I also assume the age of the CB could make a noticeable difference in the surface finish - we know that they wear down over time from being struck with chalked tips, so the surface must get roughed up in the process - and that means they collect more chalk dust, which means more skids.

So do older CBs cause more skids than newer ones? I'm guessing yes.

My Blue Circle from the Centennial set measures 2.240, my Aramith Measle measures 2.245, and both my Red Circles measure 2.224/ and 2.223.
