I use a sharpened pencil. It can be seen on any material, even black phenolic but doesn't stand out and glare at you.

I use different methods. On my 8-Ball cues I engrave my name on the butt cap. On my snooker cues I have wooden buttons that have my name engraved on them that I inset into the cue. On my 8-Ball shafts I use a waterslide decal.

i sign my name on my cues between coats with a pen that can only be seen when the cue is placed under an ultraviolet light [ old hippy light ] only the owner knows its there and my crappy signature doesn't mess up the beautiful wood.

Put a little sealer where ever you plan to sign. That will keep your pen from bleeding.

i ordered one ... havn't tried it yet.
