Cue lathe

I'm looking for a cue building lathe and am wondering which lathe is the most recommended. I have been working on shafts, tips, and ferrules for awhile and would like to move forward into some cue building.

If you want a cue lathe, I'd suggest Chris Hightower's Deluxe. Unique's TaperShaper is a great machine for tapers only.

Honestly I would use Hightowers Deluxe lathe, I have one and it will do anything you need it to pretty much. Barring the performance of it, you have Chris's support if you have any questions, he is very helpful.

I have two highly modified Porper lathes that I like very much. But he is right about Chris's support. He is there to answer any questions. I bought his inlay machine a year ago and love that as well. Good luck

Hightower for sure. I bought a cheaper lathe and have regretted it since the day it got delivered. I wish I would have bought a deluxe.

wich one will u prefer hightower or the customcuelahte 2
has someone test both maschines???

thx

honestly i would stay away from the customcuelathes  there are plenty of good alternatives with good customer service.

this is my opinion tho.

hightower, TSP and porper seem to have the best reps as far as quality and customer service and in that order.

Good luck

Why is there a stigma about customcuelathes? From what I can tell they look like they are built well, and he continues to improve them when the other guys don't seem to. Why does everyone say Hightower is the way to go? The only reason I keep hearing is customer service. I don't own either, but have thought about buyin one or the other in the past. Curious mainly....

Buy the Hightower book and DVDs first. Study....

Then buy a Hightower deluxe.

You won't be sorry.

Why do you think Hightower deluxe owners are always selling them for Chris. He doesn't even have to advertise.

I bought one and I've regretted it since day one. In the end, I paid as much for my customcuelathe as I would have for a comparable hightower lathe and my lathe is not close to being equal. The whole experience was bad for me and my wallet. Even though I bought someone elses lathe, Chris still offered to try and help me get my lathe fixed up. That's why I reccomend him.

Did you buy his "cue builder" lathe? His new one "looks" top notch, but then again looks may be deceiving. That is great that Chris helped set up another guys product. Enough said...lol

His mandrels looked top notch in his picks too but we all know how they turned out. When you buy from Chris you know you are receiving a product that has been tried and proven in the feild, not something new that has just been come up with. Chris having to step in and help fix problems on someone elses product speaks volumes for both parties customer support!

I cant agree with you more!

They are all right. People who have ever owned a hightower product haven't had much to complain about. He gives the best advice, it doesn't matter if you are buying something or not. The products have been tried and tested with all the bugs already worked out. And, if you get your stuff from other places, he still tries to fix your mess at the cheapest way possible, not trying to make you spend a mint. That is why his stuff that comes up used usually does not last long. Funny how we all advertise for Chris's products. Where's our royalties? LOL Good luck
