Cue Makers as Players

Yea Book, they just love fiberglass... thats why they play with that equipment... has nothing to do with sponsor dollars at ALL!! ;)
I second that.
some questions just don't even deserve a response..................

Dennis Searing is my choice for best all-around cuemaker/player alive. Since Dennis is a South Florida player I grew up watching him play on the Florida Tour and in action. One of my first memories of watching fantastic pool was watching him matched up against Dennis Hatch in The Golden Cue Billiards in Hollywood, Florida in the early 80s. Even well into his career as a full-time cuemaker Dennis was a very lethal player, such as the time I saw him beat Corey Duel in the finals of a Florida tour stop in 2000. The next year he was in the finals of the Florida Tour Season Finale. As good as that sounds, I think his cuemaking ability gives his pool playing ability the last 3, easy.

What about some of the legendary cuemakers, were they players? Gus Szamboti, George Balabushka, Herman Rambow, etc?

nice topic... edwin reyes would be my bet (apa level 7, ept-phil level 7) won several local tourneys...participated in some int'l events.
legendary(phil) jessy bundalian- (efrens orig cuemaker) at his peak plays well... ;)

Some of the better known cuemakers that are/were great players (in no particular order):

Billy Stroud, Mike Sigel, Bobby Hunter, Paul Mottey, Mike Gulyassy, Rick Howard, Jack Madden, Skip Weston, and Danny Tibbitts

Sure there are many more but these come to my mind immediately. These guys really know their stuff when you talk "playability of a cue".

GOSH.....how could I have forgotten Dennis Searing, Joe Gold, and now Shawn Putnam.

I just finished Buddy Hall's biography. Jack Madden and Leonard Bludworth are both mentioned as superior players (I can only assume that their cue-making skills are the same).

Jack makes a GREAT HITTING Cue, I was at his place in Montana for a Few Days. He showed me some stuff no one else has showed me to improve my Game. I am Practicing what Jack Showed me Daily, and I can see ONE HELL of an Improvement in my Game, when I concentrate 110% on what I am doing.... :D

Thierry Layani plays pretty sporty as well. He just won our Great White North tournament in Toronto on Sunday...

How about Andy Gilbert? Great cuemaker. Not too sure about how he does in tourneys though. Still he competes...

Bryan Mordt from BCM is a hell of a player... He's not playing much in competition these days, but at one time, he was one of the highest rated players in Arizona.
