Cue repair lathe FS

I built this 47 inch Taig based cue repair lathe using some of the 1.5" 8020 aluminium framing I had.
The dovetail bed is 3 pieces secured through the uchannel and into the 8020 with six 5/8" flat head bolts. It is super solid and portable, weighs about 35# based on my forearm curl test. It has 27" of Taig rack for moving the carriage knob pinion. The rack is set 5 inches in from the right hand side where the tailstock would be mounted, to maximize the length that is usable.

It comes with a brand new PennState 1/2 HP variable speed motor. I added a 10amp DPDT switch on the right hand side of tge contril box so the headstock rotation can be reversed. The switch is located in a good location, near the headstock where you can safely switch it off with your left hand. It turns the standard counterclockwise in the down position, off in the middle and clockwise in the up position.

The headstock is used and has a few dings on the black aluminium body, it is perfectly functional. The 3 jaw chuck opens wide enough to hold the butt of a cue, I believe it goes to 2.5". The spindle is 0.59" or 15 mm so the shaft of the cue can be passed through the back of the headstock , into the chuck and tipwork can be done with the tip just to the right of the chuck.

It can be used for tip replacement, ferrule installation, linen wrapping, shaft maintenance, butt cap work...really everything but tapering, but bars could be added.

This unit DOES NOT COME with the carriage, steady rest or tailstock included in the photos for demonstration purposes. Those items are readily available new or used if the buyer requires them. For those with full sized taig based lathes that are not portable, this setup will work with the components you have. So when you want to do repairs on the go at events you can easily do so. The headstock is mounted on a 1" riser block , so it matches up with components from tapering lathes tgat have 2 crossslides on the carriage and a riser under the tailstock. If the headstock riser isn't needed I can remove it.

Its a real nice setup, you will not be disappointed. I am asking $600 delivered for it. Payment by Paypal is encouraged, but I would take any form of payment. It will ship fully insured with tracking in 2 packages. The motor and headstock assembly in one
box. Then the bed will be seperate with the 2 feet disconected so in can fit nicely in a long triangular box. Any questions ask here or by PM.

That was fast. And I can assure you Sebas, that dealing with CuePorn, your transaction will be smooth.

He knows how to do it properly.

Put taper bars on that and you are on your way. Other than that, this little machine is priced great and is obviously well built.
Should be a breeze to make that money back in short order.

tapering

Yes 8020 mounted bars would fit onto this easily. Its great stuff.
Terry did you put yours on yet?

Can that be done ? I would love to know more if someone can help me

No Bud, I haven't mounted the bars yet. I have a couple more upgrades that I will do and the bars will go on last.

But, there is more than enuff material there to do a great job when the times comes.

Ya know, if someone hadn't jumped on that one, I may have seriously considered that one as well.

Can't beat that price.

Thanks Terry

I always price things to move. The materials alone are worth 600. I really enjoyed putting it together. If I had the time I would make a few dozen, lots of people are interested.

Still waiting on payment, JT is next in line at 7PM.

Thanks brian

Just spent a while talking to cueporn (Brian) on the phone, Just wanted to say Brian was a very very helpful and gave me lots of good use full information as far as building a lathe just like the one shown..A great guy to deal with and a very helpfull person, Great AZ'er. Thanks Brian

I hope if I am ever ready to make the move that I can find a deal this sweet. I don't know a lot about it but this seems to be a spectacular deal.

Maybe a parts list posted to put something like this together would be nice.

I would like to have a decent lathe someday for my own cue work (tips, ferrules, joint rings, and wraps...that's all I would like to do). Just for myself.

.

Seconded ChopDoc. I would love to see a parts list for this lathe as I saw it too late :( What a great looking setup

Thanks for the kind words

First the lathe has been paid for, no longer available.

Nothing terribly complicated about building this lathe. Compared to my cuebuilding setup this was pretty straightforward.

I highly reccomend to anyone looking to put something like this together to talk with either Bassel from customcuelathe or Todd from midamericanpool. They can get the full length taig beds and sell the components you need. Both guys are very helpful and priced fairly.

They both sell nice repair lathes for basic cue repair with tool sets, maintenance pins, steady rests with collets ect. in packages. You need all of those things anyway, so getting everything at one time makes it easier. They both have sone great cuebuilding machines that are very advanced.

This looks a lot like mine! I buy my beds from Todd, one of the good things about the mounting feet Todd uses is that the bolt straight down and fit perfect onto some 8020 1030 aluminum. I have a 6 ft bed and my taper bars mounted with the same 8020, along with a Taig dovetail piece to hold the steady rest that I am not using at the time. The only thing I could suggest here is to move the motor around so the tail is not in the way of your bars if the new owner adds any. I will try and post some pics of mine if I get time.

motor mount

I figured I would have the motor like this for stability, keeping the weight towards the center. If the motor was out beyond the feet I was worried it could be tippy. Since its a repair lathe it has plenty of clearance.

Looks like the weekend is here in 8 short minutes, everybody have a good weekend.

I got a quick minute to post a few pictures of mine, Not quite done with it yet but it's been a work in progress.

The one picture shows the Taig dovetail piece I use to store my steady rest that are not in use. The bolt right to 1020 pieces. You can also see the Alisam holders mounted to the front face of the 1030 that holds the bed up. Those have been great to have, the carriage goes right over the top with no problem. Taper bar set up I built and rotates for 4 sides.

Nice

Is your taper bar a unique design you came up with? That is brilliant.

It looks great. Post pictures when its done, I would love to see them.

Nice set-up. Tool holders mount up nicely. I ordered two sets of them the other day but haven't gotten them yet.

I LOVE the taper bar set-up. I agree with cueporn, that is brilliant. I still gotta add taper bars to mine, would love to see more when you are done.
