Cue sales on ebay?

I usually check the cues listed for sale on ebay to see what's listed and also to see if there's a cue that I might be interested in bidding on. It seems that there aren't that many nice cues being listed and the ones that are listed aren't selling that well.

I think maybe the crooked sellers who try to scam buyers has taken a toll on the buyers confidence and maybe the slowdown in the economy has also affected the cue listings and sales. I'd like to get some opinions from the people on this forum about this. I've bought some nice cues on ebay, but i've also been stung a time or two. It would be interesting to hear what others think about the ebay cue sales. I've seen some nice cues never get a bid and the prices were reasonable and it makes me wonder what the problem is.

Yes, it's been pretty boring lately. I'm bargain hunting for the stuff I like to collect and so are a lot of others but the pickings are pretty slim. Be patient -it comes in waves.

For the good collectibles, there is a trend toward making the deal happen on a negotiated basis outside of E-Bay. There does not seems to be a shortage of buyers for properly priced, well advertised, quality cues being sold by reputable members.

Prices have just dropped to more realistic levels. They're not too low.

You don't know how right you are. The last two big ticket items I've bought were listed on eBay and purchased outside. Sometimes it's much easier on both parties to negotiate a price.

EBAY sales

I agree that some cues are getting way to high in price. The answer to the question about slow cue sales is most likely the price. Like all other items a cue is only worth what you are able to sell it for. I believe that alot of sellers anticipate making "big bucks" off of reselling cues that they have bought or collected over time. Listing them on EBAY for the whole world to see and bid on sometimes throws them a huge reality check. As previously posted some really nice cues don't even attract a single bid. If priced right I think these cues would move or sell at a quicker pace.

I think ebay always tends to go in cycles. Whenever i have a little excess cash there is nothing but junk. When i am broke my dream cue pops up every other day at a bargain price. :-)

Such is life.

Summer time and the livin' is easy

Is it not just possible that it's Summer and the off-season for Pool and all things Pool-related?

BINGO!! I would have to agree with that assumption, Dano!

True plus a lot of people travel and go on vacation in the summer. The contrarian thinking is it's a good time to sell because others are holding back...

Ebay cue sales

The power of eBay is that you have more control and information about the seller and options to deal with disputes. I have purchased a few cues but with good results but nothing on the high end. Out of curiousity what types of cues are you interested in and what price ranges?

Thanks

I browse the eBay cues section almost daily, and I agree that the market seems to be in a "rut" for lack of a better word.

Certainly all the scams that have been going on don't help. I think a lot of bidders are more leary and consequently not as much bidding takes place. Cues end at lower prices, so a seller is less likely to get what he wants for a cue. This results in more reserve auctions and less auctions in general since sellers are afraid their price won't be met.

I think the high-end stuff is getting hit the hardest because lets face it, if you're going to run a scam auction, why do it with a $300 cue? If you're the scammer, the risk is the same with a $2000 cue, but the reward is sure a lot sweeter.

The summer certainly doesn't help either. Everyone is more focused on outdoor stuff, both "doing" and "buying." Not as much time or money for the cue section.

I've run across a few eBay deals lately that I've been pretty happy with. Nothing high-end, but a good deal is a good deal.

Now THIS is funny. Trying to get 3-5 grand for cues and can't do better than a cell phone camera.

Ebay cracks me up sometimes. The funny thing is the insertion fees he had to pay on those auctions is outrageous.

Hi John. See, that's the problem. the insertion fee is only about $5 with one photo like that. They only charge a lot if you sell it.

If you want to read some funny stuff, look at the questions people sent in - which are very negative. He stupidly chose the option of showing them in his ad! What a winner.

I usually watch for Paul Mottey, Andy Gilbert, and Tim Scruggs cues and the prices would depend on the quality and level cue that's being listed. If I run across a cue that I really like I set a limit on how high I'm willing to go and I bid on it and maybe things work out and I win the auction and get the cue. I've seen many scams on ebay and because of this I'm much more cautious about the seller and whether i've heard of him before and I check his feedback rating carefully. I don't have unlimited funds for cues so I have to look for fair deals. I may buy a cue that I like better than one I have and then sell one and replace it with the new cue. My cue collection stays around 6 cues.
