Tap. Tap. Tap. I sometimes have to add a few swipes with a 6000 micro mesh.I've been using a slightly damp papertowel, then dry with a soft rag. Then use a piece of leather.
My cue is graphite, i usualy wipe it with a microfibre cloth, seeing as how it does not have wood pores, does water have the same effect on the sealant for graphite?
Magic Eraser cut into nice little pieces.
Dry quickly. Burnish with leather, brown paper bag, 2,000 or finer sand paper.
Sorry to bring up such an old thread (that's what the search function is for, right?) but I just had a couple of questions.
I went the alcohol route as I needed something pretty quickly and didn't want to wait to have something shipped. How often could I (or should I) clean the shaft safely? I want to do it as needed, but sometimes my cue gets passed around (I know, I'll put a stop to that) and things can build up quickly.
Also, I was using a Q-Wiz polisher to smooth it during play, but it disappeared and I'm looking for a replacement. I actually liked the Q-Wiz, think it did a great job, but could someone recommend anything else for keeping my shaft smooth or for a quick polish before a game?
Thanks for your help!
Call me different but I don't care for clean white shafts, I like mine blue. Thus I don't clean them much at all. The only time that I really work on my shafts is when I get a little ding in them. That is a thread in itself.
A piece of paper towel, works in a pinch, for a quick polish. Rub the shaft with it quickly until it gets hot.
PS you could always switch to tan chalk, which does not show up on the shaft as much as good ole blue.

Thanks.
I was getting worried about my blue shafts.
Thought I might be up with the times.
Many years ago a wood expert told me the best thing
for a shaft is your hand. My shafts are as smooth as glass
they're blue but smoooth.
What do you want, impress a chick or play pool?
Now here's the question. How do you clean a high rag content ferrule.
Has nothing to for with chicks. Promise.
My cue builder won't do that and out of respect and no desire, I can't change it.Getting Linen based ferrules clean!
That is one reason why I play with ivory ferrules.
