Cue Tip Contact Myth-Busting Truths in Super Slow Motion

(in the voice of the guy from the Twilight Zone) Imagine if you will. An internet where you can only access one website. On that website there will only be two threads about pool. One about which tip is best and if layered or nonlayered. The other......are maple shafts better than LD shafts and does deflection really matter. The inescapable spiral into madness. Broken only by the occasional temporary ban for mentioning the unmentionable topics of todays society.

Given all the talk about max spin, might be closer to “The Outer Limits.”

On a real note, I went to my pool room last week to play with a friend of mine, retired Marine named Rick. He was complaining that he just had a new Kamui tip put on and it cost him $50. I showed him my Triangle and said that it holds chalk like a champ, doesn't glaze, and holds shape. He asked how much it cost. I told him $5 with installation. He looked at me for a few seconds and said "fuck you and your $5 tip". I asked if he wanted to hit a few balls with it to see if he liked it. He said "hell no. bc if I like it then im going to be even more pissed I paid fifty for mine" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

5bux is cheap. Every cue guy i know charges 15bux for standard(Tri,LePro,Elk) tips. Triangle seem to be more consistent these days. They were pretty iffy for a while.

I live in Angier NC which is about 40 minutes south of Raleigh. There is a guy who does cue repair and such down in Fayetteville. He is the one who will sell the tip and put it on for $5. I was worried about consistency as well so I bought five tips and did the old drop them in water test. Only had to get rid of one. They've been great.

Shouldn’t there also be a thread on the effects of carbon fiber shafts on tips and the amount of extra spin you get with them while using carbon fiber.

You've got to be kidding. I suggest you take count of the number of posters in this thread who have dared question your conclusions, methods, and much less your authority. On top of that, count how many of us started with a polite, even deferential tone.

And then, count the number of times each of these posters who dared question your highness has been insulted (myth believers), intimidated, told they are drinking koolaid, telling old wives tales (OWT), "spouting off" (in your own words), and on and on...

You are the mob leader, if anything, Doctor Dave. Your behavior is hardly becoming of a scientist.
All the Lou's on ignore now. This tread has taken my list from 2 to 6.

we're going to need a matrix of shaft type, tip type to define a bunch of stuff that really doesn't make a lot difference to someone actually playing the game.

Not much really matters (butt, wrap, joint, shaft, tip, chalk, cloth, rails, cushions, slate thickness, humidity, etc.) except the player. A good player can adjust to any equipment and any conditions, One thing that is kind of important is that the tip holds chalk since pure center-ball hits can be limiting. It also helps if the table is reasonably level. That's about all I can think of.

Just want to quote this one…. May be (probably) useful down the line.

I can't even believe that you said this.
