Over the years of playing and trying out numerous cue tips and a couple of different ferrules, I just can't seem to get a consistent good medium-medium hard hit. I used to be happy with the old moori medium tips, but the new moori tips, even the soft (slow) are still too hard. I had tried a couple of Kamui MS and found 1 that played pretty good, but for that price, it gets expensive going through a few tips to get one that plays like it should! Anyone playing with a certain tip and ferrule combo, that could say their cue hits like a true medium moori of old, Please let me know some results? I just want to find that feel again! Once I find what ferrule/tip I like, then I will order a good quantity in hopes that the tips will play consistent!

I notice that as of right now 100% play with moori.:p Ferrule has to be ivory.

Bear with woven ferrule, and Everest tip. :)
One of the best choices.
By the way, the glue is so important.
I did 100+ tip installs in the past 2-3 yrs, and belive me, the Loctite Supper Attack Gel/liquid is far the best for the work

Tip

I play with a Hercules H2 tip, which you did not have Hercules in the poll.

Morri or Kaumi

My standard is Morri Soft, but I have also have used Kaumi and frankly I cant tell a difference.

Joe Blackburn, IMO is the best repair/ tip person out there. A nice guy and HUGE knowledge base. I asked him about my observation that the Mooris today I use a Morri soft and I used to play with a Moori medium. He said that the soft is almost exactly like the old mediums.

So in summary, I use Moori soft or Kaumi soft and I find no difference.

Lepros are a distant 3rd. Inconsistant, but when you find a good one, they are pretty decent and priced good. (For the owner, not the repair person).

if it is feed back that you want you can probably stick with a moori or a kamui i medium but the ferrul may be the culprit, ivory or the ivory substitute Elforyn may be all you really need

I have a Patrick custom cue with LBM ferrule. It came with a moori soft. After the first try-out of the cue, I changed the tip to a Kamui (MS) using Loctite Ultra Gel. It played close to the feel I like. Tip got low, so I changed it using a new Kamui (MS) tip, and now its playing on the hard side! I am not familiar with a Bear cue or the wooven ferrule. What type-brand is this ferrule?

Hi Ken, I can tell a noticeable difference between the Morri Soft and the Kamui Soft! Sorry to disagree, but the old moori mediums were nowhere as hard as the new Moori soft! When Mr. Moori died and his son took over, big changes seemed to appear!

I have tried Elforyn, it too, is on the hard side! I was thinking of trying the Juma material, do you have any feed back on the Juma?

I just put on a Sniper and I love it. Great control.

and I HATE LE'PRO

Hi Gordon, I would agree with the Le'pro. You know I still have about a dozen lepro's that are about 12 years or more old! I have played with the Tiger tips years ago, but that was when the good moori tips were around and the hype hadn't started with the tips being sold at skyrocket prices! I may try the Sniper or Everest again, and see what happens!

What is woven ferrule? It is hard to say for me. The only thing I noticed about that, is it is very hard to damage it, can't cut it as easy as the others, the Bear cues has that type, and the Predator sport BK2 too, as I remember. Something new stuff, I bet, and damn, you have to try it! :)

I am using a non capped lbm with a wizard med and I am very happy. I have tried Ivory and liked it but it kinda scared me if you know what I am saying. I have also used sniper, everest, triangle, lepro, morri, kamui, and talaisman but I just havent found anything as consistent from tip to tip as the wizards. JMHO

i'm using a really old le pro at the moment that i had laying about.....its the most consistant le pro i've ever used.....i normally use elkmaster milk duds....these hit very similar to an old le pro i think.if i had to use a layered tip it would be a kamui or an everest.
my ferrule of choice was ivory but i've now got a micarta ferruled shaft and its the best hit i've experienced

There is just no "right" answer to the tip / ferrule question. IMO, every component from the handle forward affects the hit, including handle material, forearm material, joint and taper. I have 4 shafts with 4 different tips that feel similar to me. Stock McDermott shaft has a Moori Q, custom 3/8-10's have a Wizard and a Sniper, Stock Joss shaft(the only one with a capped ferrule) feels best with a Moori M or a Talisman Pro M. I swapped a helluva lotta tips to try and get a similar feel with all 4. A tip that feels just right on one shaft can feel too hard or too soft on another. I wish I knew what the ferrule material is on the custom shafts, 'cause a ferrule change will force me to start the whole tip selection process all over again.

The LBM ferrule that I am using is capped! I did try the wizard med, but still did'nt feel right. I am wondering if maybe the non-capped ferrule would be a softer hit.

Where can I get the micarta ferrule material? I may try this and also the Juma material in a non-capped set up! I believe this may give a better feel of the cue's playability.

I use a LePro. I figure if it's good enough for Buddy, it's good enough for me. Johnnyt

I guess my input won't be much help since I prefer firm tips but . . .

I prefer firm tips. :) I'm another old time Moori player who is over the 'new' ones and in fact , have all but given up on layered tips altogether. Right now I'm trying some Wizards which seem to play alright , probably as good as the new Moori's but at half the price. I also didn't mind Super Pros , which are even cheaper but again are quite firm.

My only real comment is that all tips get more firm the more you play them , there's not really much you can do about that. I can't imagine how long any 'soft' tip will stay soft with regular play and you would most likely have to replace it more often to keep that 'feel'.
