FYI, the text placement for site 1 gets messed up in a Webkit browser (Safari and Omniweb for Mac)

It's a little cleaner and easier to read. There is alot going on in site 1.

I use Opera for a browser and site 1 does not look right in it. Things are out of position.

Good luck on your site.

I like site 2 better, but I think you should use alt tags on your thumbnail images so that visitors could get some info by just rolling over them. :)

I think the black background has to go on all of your websites, including the 4 in your signature. It makes the text hard to read. I think most websites stopped using dark colors for backgrounds in the late 90's for that reason.

Ill have to check for the cross browser campatibility.
I will also exam different background colors.
I did not make site 2.

I vote site 2 as well. First site, the back ground and images didn't look correct when you resize the browser window. Site 2, I would play with the text and colors some. It all seems very bold to me but as others mentioned, maybe its the bright font colors on the black background. If the font size wasn't so bold, maybe it would be easier to read.

Site number one got my vote by a mile. I don't think it renders properly in Firefox, but I like it much better, it looks much more professional (in spite of rendering problems, I can see where it is going). Not a fan of skeletons playing pool. In my opinion, the more you stay away from silly pictures, the more professional it looks. Otherwise, it ends up looking like something from 1998. "Not just a cue, but a work of art" next to a smoking alligator holding a pool cue? These things don't bring images of quality to my mind.

Also, a word on usability. Gifs for words are bad (2nd site). Especially when you don't use <alt> tags for blind readers (alternative text that describes the picture). Maybe you don't get many at a pool website, but it's just bad form.

My 20 Won.

[Edit]After reading the above posts, I'm thinking that site 1 has major problems rendering in Firefox, as I can't even see pictures of cues on that one. Take that into consideration with my post.

Did you look on the gallery page for cues. That is the only spot where are are just yet. I viewed it in firefox and it looked fine but I did not check it at different resolutions.

I prefer site 1 because in site 2 I strongly dislike the Dead Stroke skeletons and I didn't like the reptiles around the nine balls at the top of the site. I didn't thing either site had a very classy look for a strong first impression.

Sites

Site 2 is organized much better and easier to read, but needs a more professional presentation (lose the Dead Stroke and alligator stuff).
I like to see Pool displayed as a sport, and not a faddish type game.
