is it possible? advisable? to add some weight to forearm of stick by drilling joint deeper, inserting 3/8x16 headless weight bolts, then redrill 1/2",insert a 1/2" dowel, then drill and tap for pin?

Is this a finished Q or one that's being built?...JER

another idea?

Why not just remove the joint screw, have a new one made , longer and no threads in the middle, to add more weight. Not hard for any machinist. Then you do not have to drill and plug the butt, not a good idea to do I would think. Another idea is a slightly heavier shaft, like either thicker and stiffer taper, or made out of heavier wood, like purpleheart. With this idea the added weight is forward of the butt, so it has more affect on the overall balance of the cue. I have custom made some heavier one pc glass tenon and ferrules as well, this adds a little weight forward. Or find a new cue that balances more to your taste?

The best way , I think, Would be just use a longer joint pin. When I make Sneeky Petes I aways use a 4" joint pin instead of the normal 3" to add more weight and shift weight forward.

How 'bout powdered lead or tungsten and mix it w/epoxy thne throw em under the pin?
Not part of the construction, no rattle and should not affect the hit.

Yes it is possible. But advisable? I would say no. A longer joint screw would be the correct way to do it in my thinking. The lead and epoxy method would also be good.

an old butterfly cue conversion in progress. with what i am adding onto the buttend of cue seems that it will be a little on the butt heavy side.

What ever you add to the joint end you'll have to subtract some, from the butt end. Otherwise you just make it heavier. I often balance a Maple forearm by boring a 1/2" hole, 4"deep & putting in a dowel of Ebony or Cocobolo. That will also give you a more solid hit. I counter that with a 4"-6" dowel of maple in the butt end, if the butt is made of Ebo or Coco. This is how I balance 4 point Hustlers...JER
