Cues and Guitars.....are they so different?

The Les Paul std (Burst) is a 1960, made late 59' completed early(prolly feb. 60) Serial 0 1486 , potentiometers date to 50th week 59'

The Firebird is a 64 Model III, the firebirds came in I, III, V, VII. made between 63'-late 64' then they changed the peghead forward, then the body. hence, the term reverse firebird 63-late 64, then transition-only body reversed, then non-reverse

I have always been a fan of Phil Manzanera - so a Firbird fan as well.

HOLY MAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You got to wonder what the value is on the Burst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 59 remake is nice

My next guitar? Mexican Strat with a stainless or Chrome replacement bridge mod. They will put you in a coma!
Had a shot at a Firebird I not long ago for $2600 and passed. Found out later it was turned for 13K!

1959 Lester
Nick that was a "No bird" 1963 Firebird 1 also, only the first approx 70 had no bird on the pickguard, or for you blokes a sratchguard. Showing my age, when I think of a Firebird, I think of Johnny Winter

Early 1957 lester You can see the "lines", the maple underneath was so figured there were ripples on the top. Looking in the rear pickup cavity, you could see it was a center seam, bookmatched top.

WOW, WOW, WOW.

Thats a house in Beverly Hills right there in 2 guitars.

Please tell me thats not a Dimarzio Super Distortion as the neck pick up in one of the 59s???

Nope, a double cream PAF...... sans the cover
I had Les Pauls from 1952-1960 and you could see the evolution of the nech shape year to year.
before 1960 they used analine dye for the red and alot of "Bursts" faded to "un-bursts" = no red all!All amber unless you looked under the pick guard, poker chip pick up selector ring or pick up rings, knobs etc. where you could see the origial red. The red in mid to late 1960's is Tomato Red, non fading red dye, giving creadence to their color being called "Clown-bursts"

> Ok,when do the pics of someone's '58 Korina V or Explorer show up?

All I have is a late 80's Charvel :boring2:. Tommy D.

Or...

How about a Silverburst Les Paul, ala Adam Jones

les-paul-custom-silverburst.jpg

This color was interesting in that, after a while, something in the silver paint would react and the guitar would get a sort of greenish hue like this...

Definately one of the coolest colors Gibson came out with.

There as been a plethora of 54-59 Strats too, really like the Vee neck shape of a late 1956 -1957, same neck shape with Tele's & Esquires

Adarondak/mahogany Dreads are the bomb!
So is anything that Bill Collings buildes, including Hog top guitars!

Ther are quite a few different species of Spruce typicaly used in guitar building for tops, the guitar above is Sitka Spruce.
They all have different degrerss of stiffness, GPI, and tonal differences, (see below) just as fingerboards made of Ebony vs Brazilian Rosewood etc. and bridges and saddles made of bone, fossilized Ivory or plastic. Brige pins, wood, slotted or unslotted, Ivory, bone, fossilized Ivory, Plastic etc. Each material has it's own tonal qualities.

Sitka spruce
Adarondack spruce
German spruce
Engleman spruce
