Cues Stollen Story with a Twist

Last night my cues and case were stollen. How it happened was typical, but the rest of the situation was not.*

I've been visiting the Chinook Winds Casino in Luncoln City, Oregon for the Western BCAPL regional championships since Thursday. Last night around 1:30 am after a long day I decided to grab a grilled cheese to take back to my room.

My order came up, I grabbed my little bag and hopped into my car to go to the hotel 5 minutes down the road. Pulling into the parking lot I realized, I'd left my cues in the deli! Spinning around I rushed back to the casino, parked in the valet lane, ran into the building heading to the deli. They were gone!*

Two friends of mine were there, Askar who owns The Golden Fleece and Jeff Jimanez. I became a woman on a mission, ran to the deli counter, nope wasn't turned in, raced to the registration desk, not their either. Two security agents were in the lobby entrance at the security desk.*

They were terrific! The remainder of the story is a bit of a whirlwind. I was quickly describing to T, the casino security agent, my case, which has 4 patches, and a Tinkerbell and M&M little luggage tags attached to the straps. Pretty desciptive in a way I never really appreciated until last night. *

By this time Askar joined me at the desk/podium and mentioned the camera in the deli. That got the ball rolling immediately on the tape being checked, which T (the awesome security guard) said would only take 5-10 minutes to review.*

In the meantime, I described to him the people who had been in the Deli while I too was there. There was one guy in particular...

When my order number had been called another guy also jumped up to the counter, I said, "woops guy, I'm *number 35 I think you're next". He was a bit tipsy and we both laughed. In that few minutes and interaction I looked him straight in the face which turned out to be important. He was the thief as it turned out. *

When I started to describe him to T, I saw a quick flash in his eyes. T said he'd noticed the very guy when he came in and he didn't have a cue case, but also noticed the guy when he left and specifically that now the guy did have a cue case.*

!!!!!!that's our guy!!!!!!

T said the guy requested a cab. Next I asked about an outdoor camera or if they had a cab called manifest. We discovered the who, had a tracable trail and I knew time was vitally important. We had to find the guy quick before he could sell my cues. I was like a bloodhound out to get this guy.*

Fawn, the security manager, was pulling the outdoor camera tapes to see if we could see our suspect get in a cab and if so maybe the cab company could be determined.*

The cops were called and on their way. At that time, I was asked if I could move my car to the other section of the entrance driveway. As I moved my car I noticed a cab out front and thought "hmm doesn't hurt to question the driver."*

He rolled down the passenger window. I asked if he'd been through there in the previous 30-40 minutes and did he see or pick up a guy with a cue case. He said he did pick up a guy who was walking down the street near the gas station around the corner.*

I then asked did the guy have a bag of food from the deli. Nope he didn't. I next asked B, the tall burly sweet tempered andvopen cab driver if he could describe anything about the case, He immediately said "It has a Tinkerbell..."*

My heart soared! Excitedly I told him that's my case! *I started to give the suspects description to B. He confirmed that was the guy. Then next said the guy sold him the case and cues for $35. I was beyond excited now, "you have them?" yes!!! They were in the back of his cab!*

He got out and opened the back hatch of his station wagon style cab There were my babies! I jumped up and hugged him, paid him $50 to reimburse him for the money he'd spent plus a little thank you. I wish it could have been more.*

"Do you know where they guy is now?" B said he was originalled called for a pick-up at Chinook Winds but the guy wasn't there. He then decided to stop by the gas station around the corner and a guy was walking. He asked the cab driver if he knew a cheap hotel and could he take him. While in the cab...the rest of the story started to unfold.*

The police came and talked with both me and B, the cab driver. We told him everything including the hotel where they could find the piss ant criminal. Game, set, match you mofo thief! I got my cues, met some new Heroes, and your butt is going to jail! :) *

Wow...what were the odds. The police, the driver, the security team, myself and friends are still amazed at how everything played out.*

I lost my playing cue a few years ago, by walking off in the pool room, and leaving it laying on the table. Took my case, and left my cue, {I was such a moron that nite}. Anyways, took me about 3 weeks to find it, and I gave the guy a $50 for returning it.

Glad you got your stuff back.

Glad you got them back, you were very fortunate! I left my Southwest on a table and went to work two or three times. Every time a friend picked it up and put it in his locker. I always cut it close because I knew how long it would take me to get from the door of The Pocket Billiard Lounge to the time clock, almost to the minute. I have never left my cue in a strange place. I bought a Meucci with a black dot shaft to compare it to a predator shaft and sold it very soon after. The guy I sold it to went to Vegas with his apa team an lost it the first day there. Set it down by a table, walked over to another table to talk and when he turned around, it was gone. Just shows how easy it is and how fast it can happen.

Thank Heavens

I had a cue and case stolen once....

...But it didn't have a Tinkerbell on it:shocked2:

Thanks everyone...still stunned and realized even more how important little details can be

thumbs

glad you got your cues back, but how are your thumbs?

after writing the whole story on your iphone, they must need a massage or something.

happy for you. seriously serious.

Holly,

I am a sucker for a happy ending. Thanks for sharing. This may be a start of new detective reality show.

:) btw, cold grilled cheese is pretty good. Tasted like filet minion under the circumstances.

I really don't understand how people try to steal things so often from casinos. You'd think by now they'd realize how many cameras these places have. Unbelievable, but glad to hear you got your cues and case back.

Its karma....

Hey Holly, This whole story is a clear cut case of all your good karma coming back to you. I'm sure you don't remember me, but we spoke on the phone once about leagues and you were nice enough to return my call even though my dumb ass question had nothing to do with you or your organization!
Good things happen to good peeps! CONGRATS on some very slick and fast detective work BTW!!!

:) thank you and truly glad when you called CSI I was able to help you. I'm just one of 10 who are fortunate to work for who we do, Mark Griffin, in the environment we do, with the corporate culture that he encourages and has built.

Great story, better ending. I had someone steal my suitcase and some tools and such out of my truck while I was at the Horseshoe Casino attending the Derby City Classic in Jan this year. Unfortunately the cameras didn't get the footage needed to track them down. Unfortunately in addition to my clothes I had a bunch of other stuff in the suitcase as well. Oh well hopefully the theif will get what they deserve in time...
