I am about to pull the trigger on a custom fancy sneaky or butterfly veneer sneaky pete. I am interested in Diveney, Pierce, or stacey. I would appreciate if anyone who has played with either of them to chime in and let me know what you think about them and their hit- which one would you suggest? Also for diveney guys is the lakewood shaft worth the extra- he said it is just really stiff but didn't say much else about them.

Additionally, anything that you think would help influence my decision - that would be great. I look forward to your responses- as I know a lot of you have used all three. Have a great weekend!

I don't own a Diveney, but many of my friends do. I'm not one of those that believe cues hit a "ton", or this cue hits better than this cue nonsense.

But customer service wise, and fair dealing, and knows a lot about wood and building a cue is what he's got. If you want a cue that hits a "ton" you just gotta run out ;)

All very good with wood. Had a Pierce and Stacy. The Stacy played real 'sporty' and wish I still had it. The Pierce was very well made and played well. Had a Madden SP that was a stiff player. From what I have heard Pat makes a very good SP and I would like to try one someday.....along with a boatload of others.

Really depends on how they feel in hand and hit to me. Problem is, unless you play with one you will really never know. Tough to tell you which is a 'better' cue unless I was in with one of the builders or a BS'er and I am neither.

Roll the dice and find a good used one for the right price if these three are the ones and see how it feels. Maybe you get lucky on first roll and find your new player.

Good luck,

I've heard great things about all three, are you able to try any of them before buying? Unless I'm buying something to collect, I'm not buying anymore without trying, unless there is a money back guarantee minus shipping and fee costs to the seller. It seems like there are some specific cues that get moved a lot, leads me to believe they may be a lemon or just don't play to the standard of the builders rep. I got stuck with one I'm sure a lot of you know. Schon R1 with a nameplate, I sold it w full disclosure and the buyer loves it, but I did take a loss. It had a roll to it, hit is subjective, but a flaw is not. If you care about your rep, fully disclose what you are selling.

Sneaky Petes

To be blunt any 2 piece cue made with OUT a collar on the shaft joint is weak point on the cue.
I don't know everything about cues, but I do know I have see allot of shafts that didn't have a collar on the joint crack.....

None of the laminated shaft makers will warranty a collar less if it cracks at the joint.
I realize you didn't say you where going to order a cue with a LD.
Just trying to share information......

I have only owned Diveney cues from your list. About the lakewood shaft for me its a great hit and feel. Other people have tried it and only a few didn't like the hit and feel. If you like to use lots of English or usually play on tables with springy rails were you have to spin the ball to hold The lakewood might not work for you. The shaft just dosen't generate the same spin as his standard shaft IMHO. I carry both types for my cues. Adjusting between shafts is usually quicker than adjusting for table. The lakewood is my go to preference though. good luck

Mike's cues are a great bang for your buck and play fantastic.

As do Pats.

Those would be my two options BY FAR in this debate.

Number one question: will you get the cue when promised or shortly after? I don't know these makers but try to find people that do.

Diviney....

I have 3 Diviney cues. A Ebony jump/break, Custom Ebony Hustler and Custom Cocobolo Hustler. All 3 have Lake Salvage shafts. He is the only custom cue maker I have dealt with and I see no reason to search else where. He is honest, does good work and is easy to talk to.

I have played with Diveney for years and had two 4 cues made by him. Excellent hit and true value for money. Great guy to work with and will hit off a few bucks if you were to order a break cue from him too

Any of the 3 listed will deliver you a nice player at a reasonable price. I have met and talked cues with Pat D. and he is a great guy who knows how to build a player for a player. Good luck on your new cue from which ever one you choose. Matt D.

Thanks for you input - ANY MORE DIVENEY/ PIERCE reviews please let me know

Thank you for all who chimed in and gave me their input. If anyone sees this post and has played with a diveney or a pierce please let me know how they play. Do the ebony or purple heart or maple front end all hit and feel different in terms of weight or stiffness?

Does anyone know if these cues are butt heavy at all or forward/ middle balanced (prefer middle balance)- I also probably going to get 60" as i am taller with long arms and always feel like standard cues are too short.

Any more description of the lake salvage shaft i would appreciate it because I'm wondering if it is worth an extra 200-300 or whatever the cost is. I am very fortunate for this forum as so many thousands of people that can provide valuable information. I CANNOT try any of these cues because people around my area don't play with many different cues. Most are mcdermotts, players, meucci and other cheap/phenolic casted, hit or miss productions. That being said i love my predator black p3 with old 314 12.3mm. I have tried other p3 models that are more expensive and they do not hit the same as the black one with the black paint on the outside.

ANY MORE DIVENEY or PIERCE advice VERY APPRECIATED!! I will definitely post review and pics of when i order/ receive the cue. Thanks to all az guys- you guys are great

Stephen

I've owned all three and I would choose Pierce from a playability standpoint

Brian Parks is currently playing with an Ebony Merry Widow Jim Pierce cue and he told me straight out that it is the best hitting cue he has ever owned.

I know youre a new poster by the post count so I won't be to hard on you lol but questions like this our ridiculous. No one can honestly anwser this question. What plays good to me might be shit to you lol which ever one you hit with and get that AH HA! Moment is the one for you.

Thank You

I understand all cues hit and feel is subjective, but I still think that someone that has used many custom cues or custom sneakys can give their opinion- that is what i am going after. obviously one person may like a cue and i could hate it but i still would like to gather a general consensus before buying and spending the money. So thanks for your post, but no one else seemed to have an issue giving me their honest opinion. And for who did, i really appreciate it. thanks again
