Custom Cue Case Cabinets

here's my problem ...

i have about 20 cases now and i just can't store them in my home anymore...

so i rented a storage facility locker ... BUT my insurance company will no longer cover them there ( guess i should have checked before moving them )

so..........

i would like to build a cabinet in my office .... not for individual cues but cases ...

any suggestions ?

flooring ... i was thinking tiles so they are dead straight and the cases can stay upright on their own ...

sides and top - laminated wood ? or steel ?

my office has all the windows blocked out so no sun ... i guess i can leave a small dehumidifier on to keep it dry and the air circulating in the area ...

i dunno .. suggestions, guys ?? do's and don't to keep in mind ??

pictures would be highly appreciated ...

there are great contractors here so as long as i have a concept, i can get it made ....

I lock up the cues inside the cases in the safe, Its room temp in mine since I it is located by the pool table.
 
Here is something you may want to look into.

Not as expensive as gun safes, but still very secure. Also a little more customizable as to what size you want.

My uncle owns a cabinet shop here locally.....he has made me some cue cabinets out of Cherry, and a cpl out of Walnut....I would say find a cabinet maker and have them make you a case....it is not hard to do if you have the right tools....they can make the doors and my uncle had a glass company cut the glass to fit into the 2 doors on each case....a good cabinet maker wouldnt have any problems with your request


Kam, I will try and take a picture of a cabinet he made me.....this will give you some kinda of idea to go from....But, do these need to be secure? or just some place to hold your cases? if it needs to be secure, I would suggest solid wood doors...maybe 3 panel with a locking mechanism.....or if security isnt an issue and you want them displayed like my cues are, there is glass doors with wood trim and small lights in the top to display the cues

would appreciate the picture .. it will be in my own office so security is not an issue ... i would like it to be constant in temperature though ...

the cues will be in the cases so this is not really for display either and lights would not be needed ... just want to keep them safe :)

I also use a gun safe Kam. It serves multiple purposes. Keeps my cues, guns, coin collection and paper work safe. It is also fireproof!!

Just giving you some idea. Here is my custom made cue cabinet located in my study room. I have one section done up with hanging shafts and most of the cabinet having the butts displayed. I should have it humidility control but it will cost. Nowaday I put the butts/shafts into cases as molds starting growing on my wraps due to the high humid environment here in Singapore. I put the those cases inside the cabinet. If you want some current pictures please let me know. I send it to your email.

Probably you can PM Gee too, he also have a cue cabinet custom built but is a totally different style from mine.

Just look for a larger used Store type of floor safe.
 
this is what i'm thinking....

first of all, thanks to all that contributed .. it gave me a lot of ideas ...

i went down to the largest safe supplier here .. they go all the way up to US$500 million bank vault doors ... but those were a bit out of my budget :)

what the guy suggested was this:

have a high gauge steel cabinet specially made that will be :

split level :

bottom : wide open 36 inches high / 24 inches wide - this will easily accommodate the 2 new 4 x 8 storage cases i just ordered from Whitten.

top : partitioned in to 5 segments with wise .. 6 - 6 - 4 - 4 - 4 inches each and again, 36 inches high


the 6 inches width will take 2 x 4 with pouches
the 4 inches width will take 2 x 4 with no pouches and the 1 x 2's

the cabinet will be 18 inches deep so i can put 3 cases in each slot

so that will take 15 of my cases : 5 across and 3 deep
( maybe more as i have more 1 x 2's than 2 x 4's )

the doors will have gaskets to keep the moisture out ... and i can either put conventional key lock, electronic or vault category combination type

i will probably go conventional as this will be in my office and i have a steel shutter and then keypad entry for the office door anyway.

now here's something else he suggested ... a tiny 5 watt bulb at the back corner ... the minimal heat generated will not be hot enuf to choke the interior but rather just enuf so that the air stays dry ... and low powered enuf so as to not any significant addition to my electricity bill ...

what do you guys think ?

if you have whitten or thomas cases, please re-measure them for me to make sure i am not getting it wrong :p
 
You'd want a hygrometer so you'd know the humidity level. Maybe a dehumidifier?.... just to be safe. What about fire protection?
